Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When Should I Switch My Carbon Deep Section Wheels To WInter Training Wheels ?

Summer is over, alas....and the temps are starting to drop here in CO, it's not bitterly cold yet, but it soon will be...I still have my carbon 50mm deep wheels on my bike, but it seems like the roads are beginning to have more furniture in em', conditions are changing, ground is feeling like it's getting stiffer and more unforgiving...

SO, I was wondering if it is time yet to put on my cold weather training wheels, or if I should hold off til around November?

When your area starts sanding/salting the roads. All that grit will wear on the brake track.

In the Autumn you should always use November Wheels.

Probably around now. It's on the "to do" list for me sometime this weekend. Don't forget to swap out the brake pads.

I thought we were supposed to buy CX bikes for the races we don't enter, gravel specific bikes for the epics we don't have time to ride and fatbikes for the winters our region doesn't really ever see.

Wow. I use my aluminum training wheels year round. You must have nice roads to train on.

I switched my carbon deep section wheels to winter trainers several years ago and never looked back. I sure don't miss those old winter training wheels!
