Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look Float tension?

I recently started using Look pp206 pedals with the red cleat. Is there supposed to be friction tension within the range of the float or should the float be free of friction tension? This tension seams to negate some of the benefits of the float.

The tension doesn't affect how much float you have, but how freely you can move your foot within the float. The flat doesn't change, just the tension.

Also, Look goofed the translation on how to adjust tension. They got it backwards.

You are correct in that Look pedals with red cleats have some serious friction. Float probably isnt the best word to describe it.

Float is descriptive of the feeling that you get riding on SpeedPlays or Time pedals.

I look at the Look reds as being forgiving of a slightly misadjusted cleat or allowing you to change position. But the cleat will not be moving much during the pedal stroke.
