Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Winter Riding

I live in Ohio and we are not looking forward to months on the trainer. I am looking at a 5 day riding tour near St. Augustine FL in February just to have something to look forward to mid-winter. Does anybody else have recommendations on where to go south to find a good place to ride for a long weekend?

I was going to suggest coming to Australia for a couple weeks ... then I saw you only have 5 days.

Another Daytonian! I'll keep riding till there's ice or other impassables on the road, at which point I'll fix my mtb and ride at MOMBA. With the right gear there's not much you can't ride in. As far as destinations, I don't think anything you can drive to in a day will be significantly better. Maybe if you go south... What's Tennessee like in January?

For hills, Great Smoky Mtns National Park in Tennessee, or the Mountains in northeast Georgia. For flatter terrain, south Georgia and all of Florida almost never freezes and is rideable year round.
