Why are road cyclists so silly?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of the term "coy", why does that elicit such strong emotions on forums. It's like you called someone a father raper or a mother stabber. I mean if you call someone disingenuous, they just sort of glaze over due to lack of understanding and ignore it. But coy! Wow, it's like you criticized their rain bike. What's that about.

Start out at medium speed, and work up to fast.

Since I have been back on the road I've noticed several things and have been reminded why I do not join bike clubs or ride in a group. I will list them below:

1. I do not like it when male cyclist ride close to me and want to talk. Feels weird being next to another guy in skin tight outfit chit chatting.
Ride by yourself. Talking is a natural human activity, so to be expected on group rides.

2. There is always a group or several in a group who think they are some kind of elite racer and want to drop you.
Maybe they just happen to be stronger and go at a pace that's right for them. Maybe you need to try a different group.

3. Groups with these wanna be elite racers do not wave and look at you like they are billy bad ass.
What is the obsession some have with being waved at ??

4. Most are gear snobs and constantly comment on what I am wearing, wheels and components.
Maybe some are. Most I know focus on HOW people ride, not WHAT they ride.

5. Too many rules for group riding
Just enough to be safe, from my experience. Try a different group, or learn WHY there are rules.

6. Along with gear snobs, most are group ride snobs. If you do not follow etiquette, they will yell at you.
Yelling is usually an urgent reaction to an unsafe condition. If everyone is safe, there is no yelling. The groups that I ride with have had 0 yelling for years.

End rant.
Look within
See above.

Yeah it's usually a spring-time thing ... that's when all the waving and shaving threads come out. But ... maybe he's from somewhere down here in the southern hemisphere where it is spring?

Not at all. I'm implying that most don't have the inferior complex of constantly trying to drop someone on a what you guys call a group ride that is full of camaraderie.

Glad to have you back in the cycling community, Pinoy, and glad you have found BF.

Stick to riding. You suck at humor.

There are lots of different riding clubs and groups. Nothing wrong with being a lone wolf, but the OP is making generalizations that are untrue for many cycling organizations. If you join a group of hardcore cyclists who train very seriously together, you will have a very different experience than if you join a recreational club on a no-drop ride. Sure you will meet people with a wide variety of personalities and some groups are more friendly than others, but luckily truly rude elitist snobs are rare and tend to cluster into easily identifiable groups. Ask around and let people know what you are looking for in a group ride or club. Chances are you will find others of similar abilities and goals with whom you will get along just fine.

There are several riding organizations and other groups in my region and I've never been treated poorly.

He may be afraid of the "meanest, nastiest father raper, of them all", or not comfortable with his own sexuality.
