Why are road cyclists so silly?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First off thanks to the one who have responded back positively or with humor. For the ones that are negative and sound very angry, gentlemen and women, please remind yourself that this is an INTERNET forum. No need to sound hostile. There is no sense in trying to sound smart using references to books or to Danish fairy tales as well.

I know I made a lot of generalizations and most clubs, cyclists and group rides do not fall into them. I have met and rode with good people and have participated in awesome group events. However, I have came across and met people that fall into the categories I mentioned. I posted the thread knowing full well that I will get a negative reaction from the people that fall into those categories.

It is hilarious that some are so mad that they will even do research on you, pull up past posts and post awesome memes. Don't be mad at me. And try not to act like internet tough guys people. Its just silly. Thank you!
Translation:
I intentionally trolled this board & it seems I have received the reaction I wanted. Anyone who disagrees with me I will deem to be angry.

The majority of cyclists don't fit into the categories I created. But the slim minority bother me so I chose to generalize over the entire population to make myself feel better. Anyone who disagrees with me obviously fits into the minority category.

It's funny that you disagree with a post that is self admittedly & unnecessarily negative & a broad generalization. Anyone who disagrees with me has spent more then the few months & ~500 miles cycling that I have under my belt and understands this sport much better than I do.

I don't know how I've managed to survive so long without a rider behind me yelling "car back!!!" every time I'm being overtaken by a vehicle.

Oh, and the ones who yell "car up!!!!" whenever someone's coming the other way---on a straight stretch of road----when we're not going to take the lane and turn left-----wassup wid dat?

Cyclists can be akin to a gaggle of geese...and @Homebrew01 is spot on. Tight groups keep the chatter to a minimum.

To the OP: You are guilty of overgeneralizing. Not all road cyclists are elitist snobs. Many have dedicated a significant portion of their time and lives to become very capable cyclists. Among them, as in all endeavors, there are jerks and poseurs, but this is decidedly not limited to cyclists. Please don't feign surprise or innocence when folks on a road cycling sub forum are offended when you post "why are road cyclists so silly?"

If a fellow male cyclist wants to pull along side of me and engage in conversation, I'm more than willing to engage him in such. And if he happens to be slim, young, cute, wearing a nice kit, and have shaved legs, then I'm even more willing to engage. In fact I'm willing to try and chase him down when he passes me if he fits that description. It motivates me. Unfortunately, it just doesn't happen very often.

Maybe you need to work on your social skills, along with your sense of humor.
Big John, I think that you are pretty right on with this.

Nearly everyone I have encountered on a bike has been friendly, from local racers to pros. Sure, there are jerks everywhere but the only place I hear about elitist riders is on bf.

Sorry your thread didn't turn out to be the 100-page knock-down drag-out you were hoping for. Keep working on your skills, though. They can only get better.
