So They Lock The Thread About Locked Threads......
Frankly, I don't need some stranger determining what discussions i should participate in! If anyone is willing to participate in a thread, why spoil it for them? The heavy-handed moderation here has ruined this forum- from not being able to post simple everyday words like ___________, to popular threads in which many participate in and enjoy, being locked.
I don't need this!

For such an angry departure, I am disappointed by the lack of obscenities.

I think this is his ironic protest of the low-quality troll threads we have been getting this off-season.

Without moderation (think benign dictatorship) Internet forums descend into poo-flinging monkeys at the zoo. Seriously. There's a contingent of peeps out there that a) are bullying jerks or b) would like to be a bullying jerk. Give them free air and they'll **** it all up with **** that should've stayed on the elementary-school playground, but didn't.
Big believer in freedom. Big believer in light moderation on a PRIVATE internet hobby forum. My head doesn't explode from the dichotomy there.

Winter in the northern hemisphere.
You people really need to save money to travel to somewhere warm for a couple weeks when winter starts.

When they start censoring "SRAM," or locking threads because people start discussing stiffness, we might have an issue. But private or not, as long as they're just breaking up food fights and putting a lid on shouting matches, I think we're OK.
When I first got here I was rather surprised by all the thread locking, user banning, and seemingly hostile replies I'd read. On smaller, more focused forums I'd participated in there would be trolls now and then, but everything tended to be much more friendly than here. I've come to see this as more like a big city, compared to the small-town atmosphere of other forums. Sure, they had their town drunks, but you didn't see them so often, and you rarely if ever saw the cops having to do their job. But this place is like New York City - in the 80's! Meanwhile, many of the folks who, at first, came across as merely rough and rude have turned out to be decent folks with interesting things to say.

in before the ban? trying to get around the censors to blatantly will at least often get you put in a time out.

However in the 33, posters actually see each other at races. So I've met a number of people who post, and if I don't know another poster, I likely know someone who knows them within a couple of degrees of separation.
It leads to a much different dynamic when posters don't feel anonymous.
Kinda like kbarch's big city, small town analogy.

as for the moderation on here, in 10 years there have been a couple of times, I thought it got a little heavy handed (umd).
But on the whole, they give us a lot of leash.
if you have an issue with the moderation, take it up with the moderator. Otherwise be glad they do a thankless job for free.
