Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been here 45 years. It's still a slog to get through summer. Usually by October I feel like a man who just found his way out of a scorching desert. It would be nice to have some refreshing temps. 70's would be nice. I like to open the windows and air the house out. Right now I'm fighting some stupid cold (ironic) so hopefully I'll be ready to ride next weekend.

Haha, Phil. I'm saying this just as a joke. You replied last month saying close to the same thing. See post 59. I won't say anything about your memory 😄

Well, let's see, every evening this week I've come home and moved snow for longer than the time I would normally have spent putting in 20 or so miles. So, basically the weather here sucks for riding right now. I'd be out there on the studded tire and fendered mountain bike but priority has to be clearing the days snowfall as it can really pile up around here.

This is a pic from a few years back but it pretty much illustrates our current conditions. I pass this place in and out on pretty much every ride.

Oddly warm for this time of year.
Day before yesterday it got up to 69 degrees. Yesterday through Christmas day up to 65 degrees, then possible snow over the weekend. We have crazy weather.

Mid 70s here with gusting winds. Very overcast and despite the wind the roads never dried out from yesterdays rain and the morning fog. But other than the damp pavement, beautiful riding weather.

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.
-23 to -25°C the last 2 weeks; but actually unseasonably warm for this time of year
Riding my fat bike, but not everything works in these temperatures:
-I have a Rockshox Reverb dropper post - won't budge in this weather
-front headlight can't be turned on
-gears don't shift well (have to press on the shifter 2 or 3 times before the gear will change)
-not directly a bike issue; but haven't found a way to reliably keep my goggles from fogging up
Surprisingly (or not) the SRAM hydraulic brakes continue to work perfectly.

Nice and warm here in North East Tennessee but it's rained a lot the last few days it's very wet, hoping it'll dry enough to ride over the long weekend.

Thought I'd bump this thread since it sounds like the weather was about to get interesting for many people this weekend.

I heard that it is suppose to be wet, colder and more violent weather cycle for FL in this late Winter/Spring.

Anyways, This weekend is like last weekend only a day earlier, rainy Friday, cold and really windy Saturday, more cold and less windy on Sunday. Bike riding should be challenging.

60 degrees Fahrenheit and cloudy.

In general it's very boring - rarely gets below 40, rarely goes above 80, and cycling is good year-round.

Atlanta might get .00623 microns of snow tonight.

It hasn't even started yet but people are already acting like and driving like idiots.

Forecasts vary wildly (I know several guys who are meteorologists), but it's looking like we're going to get 4-8 inches of snow here overnight. However, forecast warming on Sunday and Monday might mean some road cycling may happen as yet.

And most importantly ... is it good cycling weather?

If not ... what is your ideal cycling weather?

Currently at 20C, 67F. Larache, Morocco. Partly sunny most of the week and calm winds, around 7-10ish km/h. Pretty sweet weather for cycling.

At the moment the blizzard is in full swing. 28 deg. wind 28 mph and of course the snow is falling. Actually falling sideways. Time to batten down the hatches and put the bike on the trainer.

36ºF with a real fell of 27ºF at 0900 in Mobile, Alabama. All the rain we got is making it feel frigid for here. I even turned on the heat, but I also have 10 White Shepherd puppies in the kitchen otherwise my electric blanket would have been fine. I hate paying the gas company. I did ride my trainer though. LOL
