Casually Deliberate
I hesitate to even bring this up because of the earlier topic of pussification, but I'm more than a little sad tonight. I got a message on FaceBook a little while ago that the owner of the cat that's been living with us has finally found her own place and wants to know when she can come pick up the cat. She had posted back on April 4th that she needed somewhere for the cat to stay because she didn't want to take her to the shelter and break her daughters' hearts. I asked LoP what he thought and he said he liked cats okay and so, two days later, the cat arrived. My kid moved back in with us the day after that. The kid moved out towards the end of August but we figured the cat would be here for life.
She's a jumpy kind of cat who insists on being petted until she's overstimulated then turns around and bites you because she is. When she moved in here, she was even more nervous, her tail was more like a rat's than a cat's and she had licked her skin so much that she had some nearly bald patches. (It probably didn't help that the children she lived with occasionally showered with her and cleaned her with Aussie shampoo.) Seven months later, her body, tail, and fur have filled out and grown in. Despite her meanness, LoP often calls her "the cutest cat ever". This makes me wonder about his judgement when it comes to both women and cats, but there have been some good moments. I knew all along that we were just fostering the cat and that she'd probably leave at some point after we got her looking and behaving better and that our apartment doesn't even allow cats. Still though I'm going to miss seeing a fuzzy face in the window even on the days LoP isn't home yet.
LoP is doing homework. Princess seems to be wondering what happened to all the birds.

What a game. A comedy of errors. Both teams suck but the Boyz sucked a little less.

Les & Mo, that's an easy fix - get a shelter cat. Get 2 or 3, there's tons of 'em out there.

But I suppose this is what happens when there have been three or four successive generations that haven't experienced the threat of a world war and any sort of deprivation. It's also why maybe adventure sports and the concept that people playing sport like "suffering" have become so popular.

When I was a kid I had a weird bike. Coincidentally with a square profile rear tire (but on purpose). I can't remember the model or even brand right now. But it had this huge drag looking rear tire, and a stick shift box on the stem. Anybody remember what that could have been?
Edit: Stick shift looked like this thing: Vintage BMX Bicycle Stem Mount 5-Speed Stick Shift with Cable - NOS
Edit2: Yeah, that's got to be the exact shifter the bike had. Now if I could only figure out what bike it was based on that...

This thing? I had one of them without the giant gear stick.

Since the thread has gone to the cats...
Yesterday, we found blood on top of our dining room table and a subsequent set in the middle of the living room floor. Watching three seasons of Dexter do spatter analysis hasn't yet helped me figure out who or what the blood came from, but it looks like something was shaken - I thought that maybe it came from a nicked ear obtained during a cat fight, but all ears check out (and it was an awful lot of blood for that kind of injury). We thought that we were mouse-free, but playing with a kill is my next guess...

Nah, what I had wasn't a chopper style bike. It was more like someone took a BMX frame and stuck the huge (square, grey) rear tire on it, and then a stick shift. So it had a normal seat, etc. I'm guessing I'll never figure out what it was now. That stick shift I posted is the exact part from the bike, however.

Since you guys are talking about pets, it's that time of year when our house gets a little chilly and one of our cats and our dog get over their usual standoff and decide the warmth from cuddling is better than chasing each other in circles.
I used to hate cats, but my wife came as a package deal with 1 and we got another after moving in together. I'm lucky because both of them are completely friendly with all people. You can't get them to scratch you or bite you if you tried. Pick them up, stick your face in their belly, scratch them without looking for extended periods of time, all things most cats use as excuses to attack you. These guys just purr.
Still can't stand how the other long-haired one leaves little hairball presents in the most difficult to reach crevices of our house, though.
