I have the Sidi 5 in black but I am looking to change to the red ones above
I am changing because I require a shoe that has a bigger "toe box" than the Sidi shoes

Brown?
My SPD compatible summer shoes look like casual walking shoes.

I have these as well. They are really comfortable. My only complaint is I really do not like having the ratchet on the arch strap versus on the shoe as most all other shoes. But other than that, great shoes.

To answer the original question though, I don't notice any color shoe to be warmer than the others. Also, most have vents near the toes so if you angle for foot just right, you can feel the wind blow into the shoe.

I've had several pairs of black, or mostly black shoes and never had any issues with them being too hot. I'm a bit limited on availability since I need a wide shoe, but would consider any color. I think black is kind of blah, but I'm stuck with it. My current shoe is black and blue.

I also have white because they were on sale at a good price.

White.. because they were available in my size. I couldn't easily find Giro ACC Empires in another color in size 49 and I really like the high tech laceup closure system :-)

I have black R170s because given enough time, every shoe color will turn to black. And they were on sale.
That said, I just dropped a dime on some black and orange Bont Vapor+s. And they won't match any kit I own.
Follow-up question: Shoes match to helmet match to gloves? Jersey match to bibs match to black? Socks match left to right? Thoughts or disagreements?

Black won't show the grease marks and require as much cleaning. You can also wear cool colored socks that won't clash with a black shoe.

Does COLOR matter? Evidently not, since black is almost universally available, while white and colors are harder to come by.
Actually, I always thought the opposite - that black shoes with shorts looked goofy. Like wearing oxfords with pyjamas. Since childhood I've always associated black shoes with work, long pants, formalwear, etc. The fact that white shoes show dirt more readily doesn't matter much. It might be nice to show up in clean, bright shoes, but the fact that they wind up dirty is no shame, it's totally appropriate.

I have a R171 too but i want a reddish shoe. IMO they look so cool with a black bike than any other color.
I would buy these if i could afford.

I've always been a fan of the Dromarti's but can't bring myself to buy a pair because of this reason. My kits are a bit too colorful for brown dress shoes.

To me, color doesn't matter. Fit is most important and then price. Currently I have 2 summer shoes (1 black and 1 white) and a pair of black fall/early winter shoes.

I go with what is on sale. I have a pair of generic black Nikes, and some Silver Specialized BG Trivents, but I picked up these babies this year for a song...also because I left my shoes at my host house an hour away on day two of an event. I have come to really like them.

Bigger than normal Sidis or Sidi Megas? I have pretty wide feet (4E range) and Sidi Megas (a pair of Five's and another pair of lower end MTB shoes) are just wide enough to work for me but could be a smidgeon wider to be truly perfect. Normal width Sidis are laughably too narrow for my feet.

These remind me of the shoes that come with a tux rental. Hopefully these are more comfortable and have not had a 100 different sweaty feet in them.

Ventilation, or the lack of it, is a much bigger factor in overheating your feet.
As for color, I like colors and would generally go for a color over black, but I've never been able to color coordinate. I used to have a pair of bright yellow shoes that I wore on my purple and green bike!
Now I have two pair of black shoes. They're comfortable and the price was right.

Ok, that's basically what I feel, too (as I sit here wearing my MTB Sidi Megas at work because I forgot to bring shoes with me). Not so bad that I am looking for new shoes, though. Have you tried the Lake's already?
