When is it appropriate to yell "Strava" on a ride?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Haha.

A while back, I got on the subject of cycling with a relative who didn't know that I was a cyclist. They said that they hated all of the "wannabe Lance Armstrongs" riding around in her city. I told her, "Lady, nobody wants to be Lance Armstrong..."

I was interviewing for a job, and somewhere in the conversation I said something about going for a bicycle ride on the weekend. That set him off on a rant about those damn "XYZ" bike riders always in the road. I didn't mention I raced for them.... Got the job, then he ended up getting fired 6 months later.

You might want to make sure your mailman isn't doing that same segment.

Come to think of it, I've only heard of it on the interwebs - don't recall ever hearing anyone mention it in a face-to-face conversation.

Web mentions go back at least to the summer of 2012: Are you a Strav*******? | 303Cycling News,
