Vain, But Lacking Talent
Here's what's on my FB feed right now:
1. My nephews wife is due with her first baby 10 weeks from today. She's super-excited.
2. Some sailing friends, an older couple who recently sold their boat for health reasons, just returned home from a sail trip (as guests on another boat). They appear to have had a great time. Love these guys even though they are maybe 15-18 years older than us. They look like the most clean-cut upper class yachties but in fact were bohemians and totally into beat poetry in their youth.
3. Cycling friend posted video of his daughter playing her first ever song on the guitar, she did pretty well. He'll be at the next TT I'm racing, so I'll make a point of mentioning it. Good chance she'll be there too.
4. Stage 2 of the Tour of California is going to finish in our town (about a mile from my house!). Our Nightcrawler group is already making the plan to be there.
5. On of my former residents, respectable father of 3, seems to have shaved his head for some reason. It looks pretty good.
6. The route for the Sat am shop ride.
Good stuff. No petty arguments this am.

Nice. That comes from careful "curating" of your FB. I was just about to post how I would be hypocritical to complain about an echo chamber, and then create my own echo chamber, but your post kind of points out how I think FB should work. You just have to weed out the crazies, even if it means breaking ties with old friends.
That includes bike friends who post too many anti-car rants or too many workout selfies and #cleaneating or #gainz or some other stupid self-serving hashtag.
For me, FB is also useful because it's how I follow The Onion and Clickhole, both of which I love, especially when people aren't in on the joke and post outraged comments.

And now for some classic first world consumer whining:
So I bought a small item on Amazon. I have prime, which is free 2-day shipping (and the item was marked as such). I purchased it Monday and it said it would arrive Thursday. Weird, but whatever. But it didn't show up, and is now out for delivery today. But still, I bought it Monday and now 2-day shipping somehow equals Friday? (Translation: I purchased a small convenience item that is not necessary for life, but I am upset the world did not move this tiny item as fast as possible with the largest carbon footprint possible just so I could have free 2-day shipping.)
And I purchased those rollers a week ago, but I bought them on a reputable German site because it was a difference of nearly 100 dollars compared to the other online retailers. But wow, this shipping is kinda slow. It was in Chicago yesterday morning finally, but I haven't seen any updates on it. What's up in Chicago? maybe a customs department there? (Translation: I bought online at significant savings compared to giving business to a local shop or at least a U.S. retailer, and now I'm complaining about the lack of convenience in regards to shipping when it has to come from across the Atlantic.)

So while that makes sense vs. padded bike shorts, couldn't you just wear some boxer briefs?

@WalksOn2Wheels I've never had an amazon prime order take longer than 2 business days. We're near a huge distribution center so prime orders will sometimes get to my house within 24 hours of an order.
We ordered a new chew toy for our dog at about 11 PM a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday, and by the time I got home from work the following day at 5:30 it was on our doorstep.
We also have that new "Prime Now" service which I think promises 1 or 2 hour delivery, but I haven't tried it yet. Can't imagine a circumstance where I'd need something that quickly but wouldn't be willing to just drive to a store to get it.

...and I'd like to know what jackass software engineering team needs to be flogged at Garmin for relegating the Garmin Connect "create a course..." screen to 1/3rd the size of the screen with no option to drag open, expand to full size, etc.. Some real morons there...can't even import a .gpx via the app, dumbasses.

I mostly hate FB because they make it so damn hard to sort posts chronologically. As a software engineer, I'm pretty heavily against designed in frustration. My feed is pretty close to Heathpack's level of cleanliness, but mostly because there aren't a lot of people I can still stand to follow.

Ok, I'm asking a naive question since I've never done FB but have been curious.
So you have a FB page, and you get feeds from your contacts like Heathy described, and I assume you can respond to their messages and keep in touch and all. So how do you make contact with the seamy side unless you go looking for it? It can't impinge on your page or your consciousness unless one of your contacts brings it in, right?
Regarding all the political and religious nonsense, and the ignorant people, and gossiping and rumor-mongering, that doesn't flood your page, right? You have to go look for it, right?

FB is rapidly becoming a sewer. I hate it more and more everyday yet I get the rare gem off of there occasionally. What's funny is that I find myself replying to my wife's posts while she's sitting 9' away from me.

Oh, so your contacts post whatever is on their mind . . . because they think you would want to know? And then you got folks that just post way too much.
But why is it so different from email. Of all my email contacts, there's only one, a beloved cousin, who's sometimes a little wild with his emails. But other than that we don't contact one another unless there's something to say.

I unfollowed one of my aunts last week finally and my FB feed no longer has 20+ super biased news articles and misleading propaganda memes every few hours. It's great!

You have your "friends", and anything they post or share (re-posting someone else's post) will appear in your feed unless you've unfollowed them.
Also, if you "like" various pages, maybe a bike manufacturer or clothing company or whatever, that page's posts appear in your feed as well and you can view the comments on each post.
You also get targeted ads, so I constantly have suggested posts from cycling-related companies or shops or services.
The real cesspool is when someone shares a post from a major news source and you make the mistake of reading the comments. That's where even the finest trolls can't hold a candle to the level of sheer ignorance that is being proudly flaunted on all sides.

So even if your friend is talking to someone else, you're privy to that conversation?

If you're careful at curating what appears in your feed, you can really avoid 95% of the BS, but there has to be something you're getting out of it to make that worthwhile and for me it's events/rides and seeing pictures from people I actually care about, because I don't use instagram.

For me, it's been pretty consistent. There's a big center in Dallas less than an hour away, so stuff is generally on time. I've had maybe 3 orders not get here within 2 days, and that's through maybe an average of 3-4 orders per month (we order a lot around Christmas) over the past year and 3 months.
like @Dan333SP said earlier, i dont really need anything i order off of there that fast.
i remember the days when youd order things from a magazine tearoff sheet. you pick the things you want, your mom mails it in with a check, then like a month later, just as you forgot about it completely it would show up and youd be so amped about it
even though its a totally different animal; ever since i got into the mtb anything less than 100ft/mi doesnt scare me anymore lol
