I need a flat crank for my synapse...
So I wan't a power meter really bad, but I'm poor at the moment.
The 4iiii meter fits the bill, at just $360 from clever training with the DCRainmaker coupon code.
Unfortunately, my 2016 synapse 105 has the new forged cannondale SI cranks, which are not flat on the back:
evilBay link for illustration of what I have.
So what do I have to do to get a flat crank on my bike so I can use this power meter? Like, can I just swap out the non-drive side with a hollowgram SI crank or something?
Can I just replace the crank arms only?
What parts should I be looking for on the used market?
Keep in mind, my bike has the BB30A bottom bracket.
Help me, 41, you're my only hope!

Can you not just use an o-ring to secure the piece? It looks like there are tabs to each side just for that.

What? It's a strain gauge, it needs to be firmly epoxied to the crank arm. You have to send you crank arm in to the factory to get it installed. Those tabs are to get the battery in and out.

Not everybody knows things. Power meters are virtually voodoo and some don't realize it isn't as simple as throwing on a magnet for a cadence sensor. Additionally, the prominent tabs seen on the 4iiii are actually for installation. They initially intended it to be a self installation deal, but ran into issues on shipping regulations for the epoxy.

But yeah, you're going to end up racking up some dollars to pull this off. At minimum you need to get a Shimano crank and BB adapter. If you're looking at something like Ultegra or DA, things can get expensive.
EDIT: If the rings on your current crank are the right BCD, you could buy just the crank arms from the 10 speed Shimano stuff (5 bolt pattern). I'm sure you could find a good deal on that popular auction website. But you would still have to buy a BB adapter.

Oops, I must have mixed up a picture I saw of that same powermeter's installation. I see the point about the epoxy being necessary for the electronics.

I'm running a 5800 crank plus Wheels Mfg adapter on my BB30a carbon Synapse.

@jtaylor996, this is what you would need to make a Shimano crank work for your bike.

Getting a Stages or Power2Max power meter for your existing cranks is probably cheaper than buying a 4iii meter and new crank to make it work.

Aren't all cannondale crank arms the same mount on the bottom bracket side? I'm still hoping I can just replace the crank arms with other cannondale units.

I think they are from 2014 on. Judging by what Stages says about their SI unit anyway. What length are your crank arms? I have a 172.5 NDS arm sitting on the shelf.

Mine are the stock 172.5mm arms. Would I need to replace both arms, would that make any difference in feel or balance?
