Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weaver wasn't in Prometheus. The acting was even worse and the so called brainiacs acted like a bunch of tools. So dumb.

I think it was Ben Stein that said if you fancy yourself a movie critic, and Bladerunner isn't in your top 5, you are a hack.

Couldn't agree more.

Apparently most here think he effed up the first one.

I read an interesting story about the whole Alien prequels he is doing. He obviously had the chance to make Aliens before James Cameron but he was above doing sequels at that point in his career. Looking back he wishes he did sequels at the time. Although I personally think the first 4 all turned out good and I like the different takes on the franchise by different directors. Cameron went with full on 80s action movie. Then you have Fincher doing what he did with Alien 3 which was universally hated by fans because they were expecting another action movie and he gave them a prison planet with no weapons but in retrospect it's a great movie. And then the Jeunet/Joss Whedon Resurrection movie which I also think didn't get the respect it deserves. But I am interested to see where Ridley takes the series now

Heh. True. I was channel surfing the other day and came across "The Untouchables." Ugh.

I was riding in SD back in June and kept hearing him say "tatonka" every time I saw a buffalo.

It's up there. There was some sort of re-relase several years ago. Maybe it was for an anniversary. Saw it on the big screen with great sound. Fun experience.

I like the original Alien best because it's not just another action movie... but I still think Alien3 is trash. I agree with you on Resurrection, though.

I did too. I also saw the re-release. Incredibly fantastic. The detail was stunning, there were instructions on the dash and windscreen of the "cop" car that were both in English and an assortment of other languages (city speak if you will) for instance. Mind blowingly gorgeous movie.

Just about flawless.

Imagine a story where both heroes and villains are equally beautiful.

I used to live in Dunwoody. Spring Creek Crossing apartments on Roswell Rd. The traffic is unreal. I'd duck into a nearby watering hole after work to avoid it. I drank a lot back then.

I'm new here still, and I've been meaning to ask... Were any of the roads around here actually planned, or did they just sort of happen?

I think what they have is the result of a corrupt city planner from the southern good ol' boy network.

I was wondering about that... As a bit of an Alien here, I was initially trying to be optimistic and just chalk it up to a degree of incompetence. I was trying hard not to be that guy. I did want to seem like that smug California liberal that was convinced they had the only way. Nope, it's all just a Body of Lies.

Prometheus-like, I bring news of such innovations as left turn signals that allow more than one car to pass per cycle, induction loops, and shoulders!! It is possible not to have the entire city shut down every time there's a Black Rain or a White Squall!!

Nah, most of the roads were cowpaths before cars came along, and then the cars followed the cows.

And Scott just won a Golden Globe for The Martian.

I grew up in the Santa Clara Valley, which was overwhelmingly agricultural up until pretty recently in the grand scheme of things. Quite a few of the roads around there were indeed designed by Spanish cows 200 or so years ago. I'm accustomed to that as a baseline. There definitely is an element of post-bovine planning in this area that leaves something to be designed.

Unless, of course, they let the cows set up the timing on the stop lights. That seems fairly likely, come to think of it.

Bingo!

The developers were allowed to build bazillions of houses without being required to upgrade the original farm roads (FM stands for Farm to Market)...
