Opinions on this? It's not terribly expensive and the welds have been (probably ground) cleaned up very nicely. I know 8bar is known for their fixed gears, but without a U.S. presence there's not much but a bikerumor review.

Look up LEADER on eBay. Bought one about 7 years ago. Sound perfect for what you want. Take the $1,000 you save and do a good groupo.

The chap I just got my CAAD10 from said that he has squeezed in a 28 mich, but not a 28 conti. I guess the 12 is better for this. Was there a reason why you are avoiding the ones you mentioned? No judgment. Not having the same bike as everyone else is perfectly valid.

Part of it is wanting something different. 98% of my group ride is composed of the same damn bike. I also wanted suggestions other than the one I knew about. I figured if I just asked for an alloy road bike worth a damn I'd get the caad crowd and a smattering of emonda alr and allez fans. Those are undoubtedly great bikes, but I want to know what else is out there.

I have never heard of them but I like that they still have threaded BSA bottom bracket shell While I am happy to have gotten a new CAAD10 as a warranty replacement for my broken CAAD7, it means going from a BSA frame to a BB30. With all the stories of BB30 creaks, I would have loved a BSA option.
They've also got a gravel/disc brake cx bike coming down the pipes soon. It was hinted on their website and I asked about it, they're going to do a crowd funding campaign for it soon and it should be out at the end of the year. Seems like a newish company with a strong background in single speed criterium racing ( they have a team for red hook and the like), who is starting to expand into other types of bikes. I'll be really interested to see what they do in the next couple years.

their Facebook page has recent activity but they don't seem to have a website. I remember looking into them when I saw a spooky in the wild, and I recall finding a similar situation.

Stoemper!! I have no idea how nobody came up with them. It's pricey, but if I wanted something more special than a CAAD12, I'd get the darrell.

If going the custom route, Rock Lobster is a wallet-friendly option (I see lot of them in the bay area. Great bikes).

I guess you've seen my post on the other current aluminium thread but I thought I'd post this here too since this thread is more appropriate.
I just ordered this 2015 Vitus Zenium frameset and I'm pretty excited.
Weight is the same as Caad10, Bowman etc.(1100-1200g) but with a proper english 68mm threaded bb and a 450g all-carbon fork.
If you want one, you better be quick! In 2016 they ruined the Zenium by putting disc brake mounts on it!
Cheap as hell and looks nice, too.

man... there are some nice frames on this thread. Even though I was looking for something a little off the beaten path, a CAAD10 frameset showed up practically at my door at a price I couldn't pass up. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, Im glad to know these builders exist for my future builds.

The Fuji Roubaix is a good alloy bike, though I don't know if 28mm tires will fit (comes with 25mm stock, so perhaps they will fit).
