I love my ultegra. I have one bike with Dura Ace 7900 and one with Ultegra 6700. The Ultegra is great and I've had that on most bikes in the bast 10 years (used to be Shimano 600 or something).
That said, you asked about front shifting. Ultegra is very good. I still need to feather it a little. Now Dura Ace does beat my Ultegra in front shifting. No feathering needed; just big ring or small ring. I'm not saying the price difference is worth it.
I've played with 105 a bit too. I think Ultegra stays tuned longer and shifts better. That may be why it commonly gets the best value when evaluated against other Shimano parts.

I've had 5800 and 6800 and I can't tell the difference without looking at them. Feel of shifters and performance is identical. Merlin has Ultegra group for $511 right now which is a pretty good deal

Ribble has 105 for $345
Shimano 105 (5800) Black 11 Spd Double Groupset at Ribble Cycles
Personally I would go 105 on that bike because shaving a couple of hundred grams won't make that much of a difference

Now lets wait for the weight weenies to point out that 50cents per gram is good value :-)

For me it was a no brainer to go with the 5800. Not only have people repetitively said they can't tell the difference between 5800 vs 6800, but as this website shows the weight saving is also minor, not even 200grams. 2015 Road Groupset Weights - The Bike Lane

Absolutely love Ultegra on my road bike. As many others have mentioned, it's buttery smooth and quick. I have yet to have any problems with it except for one or twice adjusting the cable tension on the front derailleur. I've been told that this is because the design of it makes it need a lot of tension. Other than that, no problems whatsoever.

I can only speak to 5700/6700. I had 6700 on a bike that was wrecked by a car. I stripped down the frame, and the 6700 stuff is in the basement.
My replacement bike has 5700. I haven't had the slightest urge to swap the components out for what's in the basement.
The difference between 5800 and 6800 is said to be even smaller.
