Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I Crashed Last Night

In my driveway. Clipped in. Fell over. Got a little ouchee. I was just leaving for a night ride, and as I'm going down I'm looking across the street at the quirky single guy's house over there and hoping that he does not detect my fall, what with two watts of LED flashing wildly about the trees, night sky, and the front of his house. For some reason I clipped in on the left first, instead of my usual right. I then turned to push the gate closed-with my left hand instead of right...and there it came, that feeling we all know so well. It's the third time, I think, in my illustrious five year road riding career, I hope it's the last but won't get all crazy optimistic here.

Nothing serious; I dusted off, I'm pretty sure completely undetected by any neighbor (always nice to save face), and soldiered on for a great fifteen miles of darkness. I'm a little stiff this morning, but I had a good ride.

Happy Friday!

I've been there. Almost did it on a busy road in the middle of traffic the other day. Glad you're ok!

sorry, I was being sarcastic, and baiting the foolish people that think clipless is dangerous.

i went clipless in 1985, and never looked back.

First thing a new cyclist should learn .... picking up oneself and one's bike off the pavement with a solid "I meant to do that" expression and calmly cycling out of sight before rubbing the bruises.

Been there, done that. Glad you didn't get really hurt.

I bought a new CF go fast bike last July, and on my first ride, I fell over at a busy intersection waiting for a train to go by. I clipped back in on my right pedal, looked over my right shoulder, and down I went.

I guess it was good that I got the first scratch over with in a hurry.
