Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That "Thank God for Shimano...." thread is practically begging for a parody thread.

Thank god I am too mature for such silliness....

There was a car forum I mildly participated on for a while. It was an offshoot from another forum that some people felt was overly moderated. They started their own less moderated forum and it quickly turned into the wild west. They permitted linking to competing forums.

There is a social cyclists' forum, but it seemed that even posting a link to it would get your posting deleted and 2 demerits. Maybe BF is a little more lax, I noticed a link to rbr forum recently that did not get taken away.

Maybe you guys can motivate me. Every Monday afternoon I resolve to go for a run in the evening. By the time I get home from work (around 6:30) and eat dinner and wind down, it's 8ish and I really should go for a short run but I feel tired. Anyone want to give me some tips for keeping myself honest this week? The easiest way to stay honest is to not plan to run, obviously...

8 seems kind of late to start a run. At least in the wintertime.

I like how most people here treat Inpd. Some of his threads are a little silly, but few people are mean in their replies. It's obvious he's new to cycling, and sometimes his threads make me roll my eyes, but I love his enthusiasm. Even when someone makes fun of him, he doesn't get too bothered about it.

I hope my comment isn't misconstrued, because it is intended as a sincere compliment. This forum needs more newbs with his enthusiasm and resiliency.

I'm not. I'll have to read through it first, hadn't even bothered opening that one yet.

RE: running... why don't you just do it before work on Friday? I've had so many evenings, even in my single days when no one cared where I was or what I was doing after work, where I would tell myself I'd go for a night run before bed but I'd almost never do it. Like maybe a 5% success rate.

If I wake up early, I'll force myself to do it because it makes me feel better the rest of the day.

How about "Thank God for Bikesdirect.com..."

Regarding running, I think I should consider getting up early to run instead of doing it later. But that would put me in @Heathpack category of awakening at 4:30 or 4:45. I have to be out the door by 6:50 most days. Grrr.

You can do what I do, which is probably the worst possible situation. I set my alarm for 4:45 and snooze it over and over again for at least an hour. I eventually roll out of bed and have my coffee/walk the dog, and I'm lucky if I get on the trainer by 7 (at work by 8:30). I feel like waking up every 8 minutes to silence an alarm is less restful than just waking up, yet I keep doing it. One day I'll learn.

Lol, I'm often on the bike by 4:30 or even 4:15, and I'm up for 30 minutes before I'm riding.

Not for everyone but if you can make it work, its a nice quiet time and a really great start to your day. For me, it really helps with the triple tasking and stress management.

I leave my house at 7:10, though, so I get where you're coming from.

Speaking of triple tasking, crazy morning for me. Full appointment schedule and three pick ups from the ER and another walk-in emergency in the middle of it all. One cerebellar infact and two dogs with cluster seizures. Plus a spinal trauma, dog who was hit by a car. I say it was a walk-in but that dog can't actually walk.

I know a guy that always dresses in camo. Whenever i see him, I intentionally bump into him and say, "Sorry, didn't see you standing there."
