I was not up early. Started at zero degrees, when Benson and I took our first walk of the day. Around 5 below now. It's supposed to fall throughout the day to double-digits below zero. But the sun is out.

So some 23 year old college kid comes into the office today. Says he's been having pain in the front of his big toe that is sharp. Clearly the problem is an ingrown toenail just by listening to his story and looking at it.
He then tells me he recently saw a "doctor" at school who saw it and did xrays and blood tests and said it's gout.
I tried not to laugh but that's such crap care it blows my mind. Wrong on so many levels.
Phew, I feel better getting this off my chest.

Ah, but the main issue is whether you treated him or sent him to a podiatrist. I have never understood that "I can't touch your feet" stuff. Especially when the hands aren't assigned to a similar specialty. There is no "maniatrist" for a damaged fingernail. How does stuff like podiatrists get established? Or maybe it would be better to ask how does it remain established?

As I sit here eating a cold Black Sea Bass for breakfast I have to marvel wondering whomever the genius was that decided to spritz fish with lemon.

I know a tall skinny guy that suffers from gout In fact, he's what I would call so skinny as to be unhealthy.

Typically due to interaction of lifestyle, medicines (eg diuretics, especially a problem in people with heart failure), and genes. Any one of these can cause gout and combining them really increases the risk.

I explained what the problem was. I told him there is no infection so he could just leave it alone. But if he wants the ingrown nail actually treated that involves cutting the base of the nail and killing the edge of the matrix with phenol. I know what's involved but am not trained to do this so I told him he could see a podiatrist if it bothers him enough to get that procedure done.

I think the first FTP was very close, actually. Using those numbers all of the HR zones and power zones matched up perfectly, which I wouldn't have expected if my FTP was off by much at all.
Also, in real world terms I've definitely made an improvement, because now I'm not getting dropped on group rides, and I can maintain higher speeds for longer.

The bib numbers for tomorrow's marathon are actually hearts. Not printed with hearts; the bib itself is shaped like a heart. Didn't know they had those.

Full marathon, @Bah Humbug? That's some scary stuff, right there. Do well, and make your competitors cry.
