Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Correct, as in connected in the power linkage to the wheels. I call that part of the drivetrain.

Edited to add that reading further in the thread, it appears that I'm piling on and I should really be nice and delete my post but screw it, it stays.

We aren't talking about a 'vette or similar. We are talking about a family car...right? Is there a case for stick? Not gas mileage anymore. Not convenience. Hardly even cost.

In case you are getting a bit annoyed with me, look at it this way. I am just trying to prepare you for your spousal discussion.

If a CV joint is shelled, it could very well cause the symptoms you have, @datlas. My guess is you ripped the center hub/splines out of the clutch disc.

I love driving manuals... in the rural northeast, with twisty, traffic-free blacktop. It's fun and satisfying, in a sorta zen way, to juggle the clutch and gas and feel everything snicking into place and working in harmony.

Of course, here in Austin, where 90% of my driving is slogging through traffic on Mopac at a speed most of you could achieve on a bicycle on flat ground, and the rare occasions without traffic aren't even enjoyable, automatics win the day.

Bah, no matter. I hate deleted posts.

If I had thought a bit further I'd have gotten it right - I knew the whole point of the CV joint was to transfer power at an angle. My mistake was thinking it was to lump it in with the suspension due to that involving the movement of the wheel away from straight and vertical.

Have I gone too far in the LBS thread? Can it get over 20 pages? Will that guy realize I'm just having some fun?

Tune in next week...

Next week? We'll be past 20 pages tomorrow. I'll be laid up on the couch with nothing to do but waste time here.

Nice looking mustang.

I am more likely to get a Honda Civic. Still available with manual tranny.

The EcoBoost version is available with a manual transmission and it gets good gas mileage.

Yep, if it weren't as much ugly as it is.

Oh man, that is some ugly frame.

Oh, that's right. If a funky frame is built and nobody sees it, is it ugly? Well I think this one pretty well dispels that idea. That thing is fugly even on the moon.

Yeah, but it needs trimming on the legs, not just the steerer. Just cut them off at the knees.
