Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clearance for 28mm tires on Domane 5/6

Hi all,

Is there enough clearance to fit 28mm road tires (Conti GP4000s II for example) on a Domane 5/6 series bike?

Thanks!

Here's my 4.3 with a 32c AW1 mounted on the stock TLR wheel.
It's a disc though, so no calipers to impede.

Spent a few minutes going over Trek's current offerings at the bike shop. They do a good job of allowing tire clearance for 28s in all models.

I can't say much other than it absorbs bumps better as you would expect.
I only have one on the rear and I only rode it outside once.
When I bought my crockett I bought this tire for the trainer.
Then I sold the crockett and bought the domane and mounted the AW1 on it to ride the trainer.

I've comfortably run 28 mm Conti 4 Seasons on my 2014 Domane 5.2. Searched everywhere for a definitive answer before purchasing but couldn't find one. Glad I went ahead and gave it a try as I'll likely stick with them.

Is it just how the picture is taken or is that tire way too close (touching) the FD?

Oh yeah - it does look like it's touching from that angle.
The arm of the FD has plenty of clearance even when shifted to the big ring.

Cool, I figured it was the angle because the one I tested seemed to have plenty of room. I really wanted to like that bike and it was nicer than my two other CF bikes. But I just had to be honest and admit that my old Lemond Tourmelet was still smoother on the rough roads.

28mm with Fenders?

With disc brakes, is there enough clearance for a 28mm tire AND Bontrager fenders?

Yes. Will fit 28 mm tires even with regular calipers. At least the Bontrager tires, but should should probably also fit Contis.

With disc brakes will fit 32 mm tires.

I have the Domane 4.5 Caliper. The 28c GP4000IIs rub on frame where the rear caliper mounts. Couldn't go larger than 25c with the Contis.

I've had 28 GP4000s on my Domane for years. Loads of room. Just put on size 30 Schwalbe G-ones. Still plenty of room.
