Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There are a lot of really bad deals on the local craigslist.

Meaning they accelerate well in spite of their weight, because they are stiff, and they hold their speed well.

BD has some deals... and some steals... but everything they sell ain't gonna be a hit.... that's just the reality of things...

if the entire qualm the OP has is about how the bike was put together and weight, those things can be remedied fairly easily....

Something like weight could and should have been researched in advance. Poor assembly ... well, it doesn't happen often with BD bikes, but it happens, and there are countless threads here mentioning it.

If the wheels are a lot of ther weight,. there are some good, cheap, strong, lighter wheels out there. I like Vuelta Zero Lites for bargain basement wheels, 2100 g for under $120 (get them on sale for $100.) ... someone else mentioned some Campy wheels (Khamsin) which weighed 300 g less for the same price but I don't know about them personally. I can't find them online--the ones I see are about the same weight and a little more costly, and a few too few spokes for my mass .... but there are affordable wheel upgrades out there.

It was also handling which @GeoKrpan says is due to the skewers (he owns the bike.

But my main qualm is that in most brands the more you pay the better the bike. Not so here. My old BD bike and this one had the same groupset (Claris) but this one is 4 pounds heavier and not particularly well put together.

There's bad and there's deceptive. I still remember the CAAD10 with the Tourney RD ...

You lie! On my local CL, you can pick up a $149 Walmart bike for only $200!

It's because of their weight that they hold their speed well- It's Ex-lax...I mean physics.....

Ah, Mr. Maalox, I know of this guy who can help you. I saw him standing in the park in NY once, proclaiming "Loose joints". Obviously some sort of alternative practitioner- not attired in the traditional medical garb- but rather in a leather jacket and sneakers (I once saw him demonstrate his agility and speed to some police officers). If only I knew where he was today. There are rumors of him being incarcerated- I guess for practicing medicine in the park...but I'll bet he could have helped you!

Just curious, but doesn't the bottom of the barrel title now go to the Tourney road group? They are common now on BD bikes. I happen to have one myself on a Mirage S. 1400 miles, and it works nice.

It looks like they offered a Tourney road group a couple of years ago, but I don't see it on their site now. As far as groupsets that they actually sell as a group, Claris is at the bottom. There are the unnamed numbered derailleurs like 2200 and 2300 that can be purchased as replacement pieces and end up OEM on lots of super budget hybrid and road bikes.

I'm not actually sure what happened to the Tourney stuff. It was the 15 dollar MTB derailleur for the longest time, but I don't see it under MTB stuff, either.

There's the yin and yang for everything. Light wheels are not the best in every situation.

Cheap, functional, AND a collectors item! I have a set right here. Look much like an older 2300 set, with thumb shifters and all, but with a 7 speed RD.

Interestingly, this bike came with a Tourney crankset as well. It's what attracted me to the bike.

Have seen folks flocking to the 7 speed brifters, to use on older bikes.
