Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I decided to cool down after a quick 15 miler after work and went to this large park that had a dog exercise area . I kind of looks like a baseball diamond with the outfield divided into three sections (small/medium/large dogs), and where the outfield wall would be is a nice wide paved path that goes around the whole dog park.

It was hilarious. As soon as I got to the "left field foul line", I started hammering it and a whole bunch of little dogs were running after me and yapping like hell, then the dividing fence would come, the medium dogs would do the same thing from left center to right center, and than the fun part came:
At the large dog area, there were these two retired greyhounds and they were pretty much on cruise control. I was going about 25 mph in a short sprint and they were just gliding along with me, but not barking - remember, they're retired pros!

I went around about three times and the owners were all laughing their asses off.
The greyhounds probably thought it was strange to see a 6'2" rabbit on a 62cm bike...

That sounded really cool. I think it would be really fun to ride along a horse/kangaroo/bird or other animal and pace alongside them. In the book "Once a Runner", a character talks about running in the mountains and happening upon a huge horse corral. The pack of horses suddenly come up alongside the runner, holding his pace and watching him as he runs along. When he came to the end of the fence, they broke off. Awesome.

I paced a deer once along a fence. It couldn't go right because of the fence and couldn't go left because of me. I'm just glad it held its line. Very cool.

I bet the owners were happy to have tired dogs to take home with them.

Most of the "dog sprints" that I have done were not at a time or place of my choosing. Looks like you've found a way to make this a real process!

I'd guess a greyhound would probably smoke 99.9% of the riders reading this site.

Our dog parks are fenced off so we can't ride bikes in them. It would be funny to get a parade going though.

Greyhounds are amazing animals. Talk about the unltimate racing machine, they are built for speed with their aerodymamic heads to their long legs. Kind of like a really good track bike with 200mm cranks!

At this one greyhound site, it says they can sprint to 45 mph and maintain 30 mph for up to an hour!!!

Greyhounds look spindly on TV, but if you've eve been to a dog track and seen them up close the females are about 60 lbs nad the males are about 80 lbs, all muscle and they stand very tall!

Pound per pound, these super dogs blow away horses anyday.

my buddy has 2.

my favorite story from him involved his bringing both of them to the beach (being in portland, it was cold and empty in february). he let them off of their leash to let them play, and then watched as they took off and went over the horizon. eventually, he caught up to them a few miles up the beach.

they're crazy fast.
