I haven't missed a day out of the six I ride each week in over a year for other than medical reasons: one day of coughing too much; one day when the doctors wouldn't let me drink water after midnight before my appointment or exert myself after; and a month after breaking my collarbone when the bones rubbing together hurt.

It's always cold, when it's a little warmer it's probably raining, and when it's a nice day out that is actually warm, I'm probably running on a coffee and a red bull and little sleep.
So 70% of the time you see me on a bike I'm already tired, getting rained on, or freezing.

Yes. I probably only average 6 hours a night anyway, but when I get 5 or less I may skip whatever intervals or hard riding I had planned, but I will still ride if I was planning on riding. Too little sleep and too much coffee can make your HR do crazy things and make your legs feel like lead, but after the ride I'll still feel great.

Yes. I do what I have to do. I've done doubles on 4 hours sleep. I think the night before the night before is more important.

I didn't sleep much the night before Hotter'n Hell 2015. I was sleeping in a buddy's camper near the start line. I drew the bed that converts from the kitchen table. I am too tall to lay on it long ways, so I slept at a diagonal. I got maybe 4 hours sleep at best.
When I started the next morning, I thought there was no way I was going to finish the 100, but around mile 25 or so, my energy kicked in and I finished it.

It depends. Sometimes health issues keep me from sleeping well. I might give up on an evening ride if I feel like I'm too foggy to make safe decisions in traffic conditions.

I've skipped a century that I had already paid the entry fee for that very reason. I'd only gotten a few hours sleep before time to get up and go.

I had bad insomnia for most of my adult life, so yeah I rode on little sleep. About 6 months ago I tried some sleep aid with doxylamine for the first time and it changed my life. I sleep like a baby every night, and if I do wake up at 2 in the morning I fall right back asleep. Most stuff has diphenhydramine in it and that never worked for more than a couple of nights for me.

It's typical for me to only get 4-5 hours of sleep the night before a big ride...100+, nevertheless I'm usually well rested, hydrated, and well fed the days prior.

I would not let sleep or lack of interfere with my riding or running. I am very predicable though. Once something becomes habitual, it would bother me to not do it. I ran every day for years. I rarely missed a run. One day, I tore my hip. It took a long while to get over the mental aspect of not running every day. It is mentally grueling to not do it. Thankfully, I am on the mend. I do not like to ride in the rain. If I did not ride or run on the scheduled days because of lack of sleep I still would not fall back asleep. My body and mind tell me to get to it. Either that or I am partially ocd.

I can't speak for those who lack adequate sleep on a long-term basis, but for the rest of us, the body is very adaptive. If I sleep 6 hours tonight (due to work), my body is just fine waiting until Sunday and sleeping an extra 2 hours then.

Friday I drove 4 hours up to north Florida for a 2 day ride, I have a hard time sleeping in a hotel bed. I went to sleep around 11, woke up at 1:30, kinda dozed off around 5:15 and woke up at 6. Went and did a 70 mile ride and was okay. BUT Saturday night I took a sleeping pill around 7 so I could get a good nights sleep before the Sunday century ride

Depends. How much did I have to drink the night before?
