Why are so many cyclists too skinny?

Unfortunately, I have a really hard time with sarcasm and/or internetting, so I took his reply seriously and texted my wife.
"Hey babe you know what would make me love you more? If you lost 10 pounds by next Friday! (kissy smiley)"
So far she hasn't responded, but I can see the little typing bubble so I can only assume she's writing out a workout and meal plan for me to sign off on.

Speaking of shirt sizing, I wished they made Hawaiian shirts for tall slim builds. Love them, but they are just too big.

I'm 5'10", 157 (today) which puts me squarely in the middle of the "Normal" range on any BMI chart. I went to Disney World last month. Compared to people there, I looked like I had just survived an Andes plane crash... Wall-E style scooters everywhere. Food being gulped down at all times. Americans: it's getting embarrassing. Please, stop.

I'm 5'11. In high school I ran cross country and distance track events (county champion in xc and 3200 m). My weight then was in the 160s. I know I was probably in the 150s when I was at the Coast Guard Academy, and I looked awful. After I left, went back as an enlisted reservist, and by the time I went to A School I was in the upper 170s/lower 180s after packing a bit of muscle on. I think that's where I would like to get back to. Gotta get 12 off to get under 200 first. I wasn't kind to myself in college and the first few years after - lots of beer and eating out with a more sedentary life.

Because 2/3 of the country are overweight or obese » Mississippi is the fattest state for 10th straight year, Colorado still leanest, Arkansas getting fatter, D.C. slimmer

Back in 2008 my family went tot he beach with another family and a picture was snapped of me and my buddy in our swim shorts. Well I got to looking over the picture and asked "hey, who's the fat guy?" and then realized it was me. I am 6'0" and weighed 204lbs then. I decide then I was going to take up running and eventually purchased my first road bike. I went nuts with it and quickly got down to 161lbs (my wife called me manorexic). My boss actually pulled me into his office and asked if I was losing weight on purpose or was I sick and just not telling anyone. Since 2010 I have been on several overseas military deployments and fell out of my running/cycling ritual and last Nov when I weighed myself I had gotten back up to 209lbs. I got back on a stationary bike religiously (unfortunately a stationary bike was my only option at the time) and as of this morning I am back down to 175lbs. I feel good at this weight, but would like ot get down to about 170lbs and stick there, but my wife wants me to stay 175 or above (she says I look too skinny at any less). At almost 48 though my metabolism has abandoned me years ago (used to be I could eat, eat, eat and couldn't get above 145lbs) so I have have to run or cycle constantly combined with a good diet to ensure I don't balloon up again.

I hear it all the time, from non-cyclists. My friends, family, even my wife... "you're too skinny!" It's not for lack of eating! I pack down 3,000-5,000 kCal/day, but I still hear about how everyone thinks I'm too skinny, along with those same people thinking most cyclists are too skinny. I'm not sure about this phenomenon, and if it's supposed to be taken as a weird sort of compliment, or a sign of jealousy/self-loathing.

Seriously? What about Froome who won the TdF? 6'1"...my height and 150 lbs. He weighs 20 lbs less than me and I'm thin. The guy is a rail. What do you think his BMI is? How about Higgins? I believe your science...just like you believe 80 gram more wheel weight is slower on the flats...is flawed.
I expect Froome is about 7% and Wiggo about 6% (when he won) and 10% at the hour record and about 10% when he won the Worlds ITT. I think Sagan is around 9%.
Lower reduces immune resistance. I buy half gallons of half and half and PB and stuff to try to fatten my kid up.
My son was 3% in low teens, which they basically said - was a guess as he was well under 7%. My wife was under 11% and 13% pregnant. After birth she was her pre-pregnant weight. Both got faster gaining BF. My son did will racing at 5'10 140#. He does better a wee bit fatter - 7% range.

I'm 5'9.5" and 135-137 pounds in good shape, but still 8-10% body fat. Small to medium bones, 26" waist, 33" chest. Essentially the same size as Alberto Contador, but I didn't get the package deal with genes for high power output.
With a steady diet of intervals I make as much power as I did riding at 180.
I don't remember the last time I missed a day of work being sick. I lost one day riding in the last year, and another day in 2014 when I got too dehydrated from food poisoning.

In college, I bulked up quite a bit in order to keep playing lacrosse. I'm now 30-40 lbs lighter, and continuing to drop weight as I get more serious about cycling. At neither weight have I been fatty at all, according to bmi and body fat % calculations.
I feel much happier here at 155 than i did at 190+.
5'9.5" is my height, for reference.

I worked with a guy who was a marathon runner. His wife always liked doing things in evenings and take weekend trips so he couldn't do long training runs at home. He decided to do his ten mile workouts as well as 20 miles distance run at work. He told everyone he had doctors appointments. One day his boss asked a close coworker friend if he was sick. The boss said something is wrong because he's so thin and always at the doctors.
