Moving From Hybrid to Road Bike - What Should I Get?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The modern road bike really ought to be called what it is, a "racing" bicycle. The geometry is twitchy, aero, stiff, and fast.
My touring bike replaced my hybrid. I have no use for a hybrid anymore after owning it. I commute on it as well. It is comfortable, more upright than a road bike but not up in the wind like a hybrid, lighter than my hybrid, durable, and fast enough for my purposes. YMMV.
In your first post, you stated "Once you have a more aero bike, you will have no use for a hybrid bicycle"
That sounds an awful lot like road bike or bust to me. My only point is that many people have use for a hybrid bike, including myself. I have no use for a touring bike but that does not mean that you do not have a use for it. We all have different reasons. Could I ride my mtb instead of my hybrid? Sure, but why? If am am just rolling around with the family it is more comfortable to ride for short distances and I have no problem leaving the bike in precarious positions. It is just my old 26er mtb with smaller road tires, fatter seat, raised bmx handlebars and a rigid fork. If it got stolen, I would be mad but it would not hurt me. If somebody stole my mtb or road bike, I would not take it so well from a replacement perspective or an anger perspective.
In the end, we all ride what we ride and enjoy things for different reasons. Just because you see no need for a hybrid it does not mean that others do not.

Because anything more aero than a completely upright hybrid must be a road bike, right?

I never knew group-sets included the chain, who has ever seen a matching Shimano chain come with a bike?
