I completely agree with this. I read the release articles, and I honestly can't tell what really separates the new group from Athena. It doesn't have ultrashift... so what is the point? I wouldn't even get a Campy group that didn't have ultrashift, so I draw the line at Chorus still.
That said, I love Campy, and do prefer it to Shimano, but they both certainly get the job done.

I've heard some people use WWII as a reason to not use Shimano, and was just pointing out a flaw in that logic.
Sorry that I misinterpreted your post.

The side levels look a little cheesy to me, it's like the same set up as the bottom of the line Shimano. I looked at Campy for my Basso, groupo's aren't out of line price wise but I didn't like that side lever. I ended up with MicroSHIFT and love the shifting of it, wish they made a rear exiting shifter cable in the 10 speed. I recently saw their rear exiting 11 speed shifters and they are like Campy. I would think those would be hard to use from the drops.

If I had to guess, I'd say because the use of composites in the derailleur mechs and the redesigned shifter internals are all aimed at production efficiency and cost-cuttting, as are the less expensive cassettes and flexibility of the new 4-bolt crank to accommodate trendy compact and mid-compact rings, all of which enables Campagnolo to offer versatility in OEM fitments and to maintain essentially the same price point as Athena Carbon at retail, while offering substantially reduced volume discounts for OEM while maintaining healthy profitability.
That's just a wild guess based on their stated goal of expanding OEM fitments with Potenza.

Potenza is the 2016 equivalent of the Athena branding (which is retired effective this model year). Also, Potenza puts a stake in the heart of the design abomination that was the powertorque crankset....Potenza instead uses a self extracting design like Athena should have had all along, rather than requiring a $100 crank puller for a $100 crankset.

Apology totally unnecessary. An unexplained cryptic post is usually a fun discussion topic, as it can be interpreted many ways..
I enjoy my Campagnolo equipped bike, and also know that Ethiopia beat Italy to a stand still with cavalry and spears. It is not a nation known for durable technological feats. That's why I never ride in the desert.

Shimano is stubborn and conservative, they don't like change much and want to keep making Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105, etc. till the end of time. Same with Japanese cars, Camry, Accord, Maxima, etc.
Campy likes to change things for no reason at all or sometimes for superfluous reasons; they market that as Italian passion, but really, they are just bored with the same look, same name, etc. There is a reason Italy is the fashion capital of the world.
SRAM is for us Americans, we just want newest; 12 speed? We are in, who cares if it clicks and slips and we have no clue what gear we are in. Wireless shifting? Of course. Look and reliability or even the name of things don't matter to us.

Yeah, I was wondering the same. One thing I would give Athena over this Potenza is that Athena was at least available an attractive silver version, for those of us who were interested in building up a more "classic" looking bike. Now the only(?) silver groupset that's available is 5800 105, an it looks butt ugly in silver (at least the crankset does). Shame.
