Computer on Carbon
I originally posted this in the general cycling forum, but I need more opinions!
I just ordered a wireless Cateye computer with a transmitter that will sit on my chainstay and a pickup on my crank. Any tips for mounting these devices to avoid long-term damage to the carbon stay (it has a matte finish over the carbon, with a decal right where the transmitter should go) or my crank? The zip-ties just seem a bit dangerous, as in they might scratch or damage something when pulled tight around the carbon.

My Cateye came with a rubber strip to put under the zip ties. You could always jury rig something like taking an old tire and cutting out a patch to go under the ties.

The zip ties won't do anything. I have transmitters zipped to CF forks on multiple bikes and they've never left a mark of any type. CF is clearcoated, and clearcoat is stronger than a zip tie.

I use the Astrale 8 with cadence and for the $28 price, it does the job nicely. I don't cover any of my decals with either mount. see pics.
When my Astrale 8 bites the bullet, I was thinking about upgrading to the double wireless. However, with the single mount for both cadence and speed, I am worried about not being able to get a good reading from both. If you'll notice, I have to mount the speed sensor in the middle of my chain stay. This is because the spokes are too far away from the chain stay at the wheel rims (where the single mount will have to go) to get a good reading. With the single mount, it seems like you will have the same problem with getting a good reading. This is just a guess, so you'll have to tell me how well it works when you get yours set up.

Nice pics - nicer wheels! I'll probably have the same problem (I have Zondas - same spoke pattern) so it might be interesting. I'll let you know how it goes - the computer should be here Friday.
I might try a small strip of rubber around the ties, but it looks like most folks just use the zip ties alone. On the general cycling thread someone suggested gluing the magnet on the crank, using a removable silicone - I might try that too. I'll keep y'all posted.
