Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only thing I think is important in a seat post is how easy it is to adjust the seat... Some (like Campy) have a very fine tooth pattern that allows you to micro-adjust the angle of the seat. Now there are new seat clamps that allow you to do the adjustment with a couple of bolts...
Otherwise, get yourself an aluminum post (silver or black)...

Why is it called a seatpost when, in fact, it attaches to the saddle? I guess saddle post is too awkward.

The one with the holes is likely the Miche supertype.

I like the Thompson posts for their ease of adjustment. They make both setback and non setback, plus have both black and silver. I likey my Elite but a Masterpiece would be sweet...not dropping that much money though.
