Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Forum Site Changes?...

Since yesterday when the forum went down for maintenance...ever since, aside from a bit more legibility which is welcome for my aging eyes...the function of this site seems 'a lot' better. Typing was arduous previous...like something was really wrong with the site.

Whatever magic they worked...the forum is not only easier to read but typing responses is a lot easier.

I wonder if you other guys noticed the same thing?

Thanks to those responsible for these changes.

I absolutely agree. Typing responses before was almost impossible for me. Would constantly be missing letters. Cursor would "blip" in and out like a flickering lightbulb. So frustrating.

Yes, thanks for the change!

The new look is more like other forums I frequent.

Never noticed any issues with typing, however...

typing difficulty might have something to do with what browser is used. I use Internet Explorer. Believe this has been discussed previously.
Difference since the update yesterday is 'night and day' for me. I can type quickly and as noted by snidely...it took a lot of effort to type even a couple of sentences. Now, its like typing into a word document. Smooth as silk.
Huge improvement.

Typing wasn't a problem for me after installing Ad Block Plus.

All the flash ads were killing the browser session.

I haven't tried the typing yet (well, now I have I suppose).

I do miss being able to preview posts by hovering the cursor over the title.

P.S. Typing is much better.

Edit - Seems the preview is back. Perhaps I needed to log in?

I will say that the mobile version of the site is much easier to browse than the old one, despite the ads everywhere.

Agreed. Android usability is way up. Site scrolls faster and more smoothly, probably because the page loads incrementally as you scroll.

Haven't been glitched out by flash or video ads yet either.

Please elaborate by what you mean as wordier? Whether tis nobler in spirit to sling the barbs and arrows of outrageousness or weather the storm of merciless ridicule, we shall overcome the vagaries of mouthless cohorts who cannot assimilate the vagaries of a enraged consortium of pedaling enthusiasts.

Is it possible to locally increase the font size? These old eyes are having a hard time with the tiny type!

I suspect they are trying, but I find this software hideous. It looks like and functions like it's from the 70s.
I also find it interesting that IB bought vB. Immediately after, the developers were either dismissed or they left. vB continued along and developed a more modern version of the software. I don't think any of IB sites use the current version. I used to use it for a forum I run, but left after IB bought it and ruined it.
Why did IB decide to install such an outdated version of their own software?

Just blow up the font on your browser. Should be a magnifier no matter what browser you run...like IE or Edge or others.

While I agree this forum software looks archaic, change of software a couple of days ago was transformative for me. Previous version was borderline illegible and ridiculously buggy to type on. So latest rev level is head and shoulders better and makes this site much more usable. Is there prettier software out there? Absolutely. We maybe in the 70's now...but two days ago the software moved out of the 50's.

Maybe this forum should go to a Twitter type format to limit the number of characters. The short stories/replies some people write could often easily be After a paragraph all I start to see is blah, blah, blah anyway.

Seems the same to me, except that I miss the "you've been quoted" feature. I know some frequent posters hated that, but I liked being able to follow a conversation without having to "follow" the thread.
