Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra tubeless Wheelset WH-6800

Hi Everyone,

I have searched for an answer to this question to no avail and I need some help. I am planning to purchase this wheelset from Merlin this weekend, and on the site (and many others I have checked) it mentions compatibility with 8/9/10/11 speed Shimano/SRAM groupsets.

When I check shimano's site (and a few other vendors) they only mention compatibility with 10/11 speed groupsets.

Has anyone run these wheels with a 9-speed groupset, and if so, do the wheels come with the appropriate spacer for the cassette? I could just upgrade the groupset to shimano 105 11 spd on my 15-yr old Cannondale R600, but with the combined cost, I would almost be in 105-level bike territory.

The wheels are attractive to me because of their price, serviceable hubs, as well as no weight limit (I am 225 lbs).

Thanks for your assistance / advice.

They will work fine with the supplied spacer. Shimano 8,9, and 10 cassettes are essentially the same width.

I bought 6800 wheelset for my backup bike and it came with only one spacer, I guess that will work for a 9-speed?

Personally I think it's the best you can do for the price unless you want to build the wheelset yourself.

I rode some Ultegra 6700's for a couple years and they were great, never had an issue with them.
