Mid-90s Merlin Road vs Extralight

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mid-90s Merlin Road vs Extralight

Anyone with experience with both of these frames able to qualify the Extralight as both noticeably stiffer and livelier than the Road, or is it all really just a matter of lightness? Looking forward to your opinions.

I'm a light rider (140lbs) and have a 1996 Litespeed Classic and am acquiring a 1995 Merlin Road (though I seldom read about the latter). Hope to learn more from your experience.

I don't know but I can't imagine marginal stiffness makes much difference when you are 140 lbs

I have a Road from .... maybe 89? 90? I would not characterize it as stiff. I'm 215 and get plenty of chain rub when I get on the pedals. My frame has some custom square taper BB that looks positively wispy compared to my modern frames so who knows. I'm not sure when they moved to a more normal BB configuration.

The craftsmanship is gorgeous though. I do like looking at it.

I share this inability to imagine such.
