Exposed foam in helmets, durability issue?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Exposed foam in helmets, durability issue?

Hello , I am still looking for my first helmet . I have read some reviews in where they say helmets with exposed foam in the bottom etc have durability issues, is this true? helmets like the Giro Atmos, or the Propero have a lot of exposed foam in the bottom and back. They are expensive helmets, they should last. Or maybe is better to look for Kask, Poc etc. they dont have those exposed foam areas

I wore out the dial on an Atmos from several years of daily use, replaced it, replaced the pads, and now my son uses it. The exposed foam has not been an issue.

Some scratches and marks, but no cracks or missing pieces of foam.

Just some minor scuff marks and scratches after 24 years and 170,000 miles. Seems like a non-issue.
