Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Haha, they're on beater bikes, bar hopping in shorts/jeans and tshirts. I'm not sure if you guys have seen the pants that hipsters wear now, but they don't offer much room after you get a phone and wallet in them...add keys, multi tool, spare tire, tire levers, co2/pump...and you've got a lot of crap jabbing you in the legs. Why not just use a fanny pack or small bag to keep the stuff in...it makes sense to me.

Now if they were on road bikes wearing proper bike attire, I would side with you.

For what it's worth, I have a basket on my beater with a little bag in it that I keep my bike tools in. Wallet and phone in the pockets and keys on a clip on the belt loop.

Droped today. There was a roadblock and these people flew past the small gap on the side, barely slowed down. Me I slowed down a bit too much. Couldn't catch the group of five on the downhill. I never ride those roads, so I got lost. Luckily I had my bike purse with me so I was prepared for anything that could come my way. Found my way back eventually. Fun ride despite the insane heat and humidity and the dropage.

I know I shouldn't be surprised by now that you were droped, but still... This was a group ride, right? Why wouldn't they wait or re-group? It was the purse, wasn't it?

It was one of those HAMER DROPE rides, so no waiting for anyone.

Might have been the purse.

Ohhhh - I didn't know that were were talking about the horizontally striped tank top crew. Makes sense... or rather, I have a better grasp of the situation, now.

Put out an inquiry for one of these bad boys today.

The distributor sold out, but the local shop is on a FB group with other Salsa dealers. Worst case scenario, the new models will be out soon, but I'm not into the slightly over complicated new frames. Worst worst case scenario, they do have the X7 model in my size, but it's green with a steel fork. First world problems and all that.

Well Apple has no idea either.

They see no evidence that any of my IPhones have ever backed up anything to the Cloud. Well, except my contacts. But that's a "different part of the cloud". Wut?

They don't know why, if none of my IPhones ever backed up to the cloud, I would periodically get messages imploring me to increase my ICloud storage (which I dutifully did & paid for starting in 2012).

They also don't know why I have never gotten any messages warning that a backup had not been done for years.

The Genius Bar is stumped. They are now escalating to the "Engineers".

Maybe I should return this IPhone while I still can and get something else? Who has what?

RIP VCR

Last known VCR maker stops production, 40 years after VHS format launch | Ars Technica

I was surprised they sold that many last year:

At its peak, Funai Electric sold as many as 15 million VCRs per year, but last year only sold 750,000 units.

I sort of resisted ditching the iphone because it's easy to stick with it once you've made backups, etc. But I never bought into the cloud storage concept. I tried to make a point of backing up my phone every few months as well as exporting my photos to my backup hard drive. I can see the convenience factor of cloud storage, but I didn't want to pay for it and now it looks as if it didn't work at all for you.

Should you decide to go to android phones, it will be able to link up quite seamlessly with your google account. There is an app on my phone for google photos which is specifically to back up photos. As far as I understand it, it's free. This does remind me that I need to set that up as well as an automatic backup for my phone to my google account.

But as reluctant as I was to ditch the iPhone, I haven't missed a single thing about it and quite enjoy the S7 Edge that replaced it.

And as creepy as Apple seems to people with all of their control over people's information, Google is even more creepy. Now whenever I check google maps on a computer and am signed into google on that computer, it automatically knows where I am. Trippy. Obvious, but trippy.

Speaking of frame complications, I like the skinny tyre warning on the Rawland Ravn

I had both calves cramping today. Right calf started during a green light SUV race. I was ahead and smiling and pulled up lame. Embarrassing, but it happens. Limped home to a Gatorade.

Don't worry. When you get used to it, you will revert to the aisle seat so you can get to the restroom and deplane more easily and rapidly. Then you will be a pro.

Bad news tonight. My friend is a scout leader and died this morning in Canada.

North Texas Boy Scout, volunteer killed in camping trip near Canadian border - Story | KDFW

I don't know why, but the article has her name wrong. Nicky Lac is what it should be. Apparently they woke up in this crazy storm and were about to relocate from the tents and she went in to rescue the last kid and the tree fell. She was one of the coolest people I've ever known. Cambodian refugee, US Marine, just an all out amazing person.

We just got back from the prayer service at our church. It's been a rough night.

I'm a window kinda person all the way. Too much commotion in the aisle. I stay seated until the plane actually starts emptying, so deplaning is easy as pie, I just sit there and check emails or whatever while all those other chumps are getting up and hitting each other over the head with luggage from overhead bins.

I can usually avoid airplane restrooms on flights 5 hours are less.
