Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They are the 402's, and they are nice and wide. EEE duck feet here, and the 237 wide I have are great. I went 1/2 a size down on these, and expect them to be perfect. The 237's will be my winter shoes, since I can run some nice thick wool socks.

And another thing: People find it annoying when a manufacturer says 105, but then cheaps out on the crank and puts house brand brakes on. The new Fargo is labeled as the "Rival 1" but only has a Rival rear derailleur. And that's it. Lower level crank, Sunrace cassette, Apex shifters and brakes. Really, Salsa?
Sunrace is making some really nice cassettes these days.

For sure, the Sunrace cassette is actually far nicer than the 11-42 with the new Apex group. Probably on par with Rival, actually. it's just funny that they called it a Rival bike with only one singular component actually being Rival.

This is where I've been-

And this is what we're doing the rest of the week-

Don't feel too bad for me. At least you can all safely assume I'll be droped whenever I get back on the bike.

I hope you brought your kit so you don't wreck your tan lines. That's just irresponsible sunning.

When you wear your bibs at the beach, should you use chamois cream?

Please discuss.

So I just got finished with my morning schedule, which included working in a building with about half of its light bulbs burned out. Our facilities people evidently tried to work on this problem last week and only succeeded in blowing out the power to the entire building for several hours. I thought it was interesting that working in research involves honestly having to ask how many people does it take to change a light bulb?

What's with the massive influx of new riders with questionable questions? It's the dead of summer. I thought this would be more of a fall/spring occurrence.

My new salsa has SRAM guide hydix and they are very nice. I hated the shimano brakes on the cannondale bad habit.

You can always just buy a frame from Salsa. It's not like you don't know how to wrench.

I've generally liked the feel of the Shimano MTB brakes vs. SRAM Avid MTB brakes, but that tells you how long it's been since I've worked day to day in a shop. I would prefer a Shimano 1X build similar to a SRAM 1X, but they're weird about not matching the cable pull between road and MTB, so you can't really build your own, and the Fargo they're launching has such a nice overall package it's worth buying until I can decide what drivetrain I really want.

I guess they will still work, even if they are noisy. Lots of ways to fix noisy brakes, but Avid brakes in particular gave lots of our customers trouble. I guess I should go and do a few test rides and see for myself.

I guess you could get a 105 long cage and a derailleur hanger extension...

We must have purchased the same picture frame.

Some of them are so obviously full of it. I can usually tell after a few sentences, but I pretty much don't say anything these days. There is at least one sock in Touring. One giveaway is that the same punctuation mistake often shows up in the posts of both accounts.

So I guess it's cabin fever? Except now people are staying inside to avoid melting vs. freezing.

Weren't the old hydraulic brakes recalled for failures in the cold? I did read that they would start shipping with eTap tho, so hopefully they have everything worked out by now.

I was one of the lucky ones with the Avid brakes, mine never gave me any issues on my c'dale.

Those were the super early days of "road" hydraulic disc brakes. They were standard equipment on some cyclocross rigs and I think I remember the big recall happening in the coldest part of the year during cyclocross season. So that went really, really bad for them. I'm sure they at least fixed those issues or there is no way anyone would use them for OEM anymore.

So I took my Crockett out this morning, and all day long I've been thinking about moving over the DA groupset and nicer wheels from the Domane to the Crockett and just figuring out what to do with the Domane later down the road. I'm just not riding it as much lately. I could get some proper tubeless tires on the Bontrager wheels. And I could keep the 32mm Panaracer Paselas on the spare wheels as my "road" setup.

What is wrong with me?
