Toughest Sweat-Proof Sunscreen
Dermatologist told me I need to keep sun off my face - especially my nose - getting bad sun damage that might someday require lazer or surgery. Ah - the pleasures of getting old.
I've been using Coppertone Oil Free SPF 30 cause it seems to be least break-out causing - but it doesn't seem to hold up on rides especially in the heat and I probably need something like SPF 800

Holding up to sweat is a bit of a false advantage for sun screen. Exposure to sun destroys ability of sunscreen to work. That is how it works. It sacrifices itself by reacting with the UV rays before they can reach your skin. But then the sunscreen stops working. It is used up. So you have to reapply frequently anyway. Thst is the key.
Banana Boat Sport is very good. The 50+SPF is excellent. Holds up to sweat pretty well. Keep in mind the higher the SPF, the greater the chance of skin sensitivity to the sunscreen because of additional ingredients. For me it is better to apply a lower SPF like 50 more heavily and more frequently.

I'm no expert, but I use the Coppertone Sport 50 SPF spray stuff and it prevents my fair Irish skin from burning.

I'm super pale (my foundation shade is actually named "alabaster"), so I wear at least SPF 30 on my face pretty much all the time. I got a sample of Shiseido "Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion WetForce, Broad Spectrum SPF 50+" which I found to work really well. Supposedly it's got something in it that makes it more effective if you sweat.
On the other hand, the stuff is crazy expensive at $40 for 100ml, so I just started using this stuff from Target: CeraVe SPF 50 Sunscreen Face Lotion (wow, it's even cheaper on Amazon). It's got the same active ingredients and I haven't found it to be any less effective so far, even though it's not got the "WetForce" thing in the other brand.

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL. You also need high UVA protection protect against further skin damage. The Anthelios XL is one of the only FDA approved sunscreens that has a UVA filter that does not break down when exposed to UV rays.

I use Bullfrog Land Sport Quick Gel SPF 50 or thinksport SPF 50+, depending on my mood. Both are made for "sweaty sports" like cycling.

I usually use Kiehls Facial Fuel or Jack Black Sun Guard on my face and just started using Raw Elements Eco Stick on my arms and legs.
All of those breathe really well and are non oily.

Several Neutrogena "dry touch" products easily available at the grocery store or CVS etc. Some of the others mentioned are hard to find and only work a little bit better, not worth the trouble in my mind. And for the record I ride in sunny hot South Florida year round and have a shaved head so I know my sunscreen. I use the Neutrogena dry touch on my head and face and no longer have the tan lines from the helmet vents like I used to using non dry touch stuff

Timely thread, since I'm about to get some new sunscreen -- been using an old bottle of Hawaiian Tropic 60+ that's about to run out, and may well be past its expiration date (though it still seems fully effective). Neutrogena products seem to work well for me, so I'll try the "dry touch" ones.
I've also started wearing a long-sleeve 'solar performance' shirt (easier than adding sun sleeves to a regular jersey, but lacks back pockets) and sunscreen leg guards, so I only need to worry about my neck and my face with sunscreen. I'm very happy with the change, especially in this Louisiana heat and sun. I'm on the bike faster and it's a lot less messy.
I wish I'd done these things long ago, especially when I used to run. Already had one spot of skin cancer cut off my face.

Something to consider:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...0401111847.htm
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22612478
tl;dr: common sunscreen ingredients mimic progesterone. Might consider zinc oxide based creams.

Check out this sunscreen review, its not cycling specific but I would think it would work pretty well. I just ordered a bottle of the NO-AD Sport spf50 and will see how it goes.
