Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pearl Izumi Lifetime Warranty experiences?

I bought an pair of Elite bibs in December and have put 2300 miles on them. I now have a hole at the seam where the chamois is sewn. There's a PI outlet across town where I might try getting them exchanged but I'm wondering about folks' experience getting bibs and shorts exchanged for what might be wear or might be defect. 7 months and 2300 miles doesn't seem like a lot of wear in my opinion.

I sent them this glove picture (warranty@pearlizumi.com) and they had me fill up a warranty form and send the item back. I decided to sew it myself.

On the other hand, I had a high end CAPO jersey where the sew was unraveling. I sent it back and they sewed it back on.

If you decide to stitch it yourself, put some Iron Mend on the outside. It works really well for reinforcing/protecting seam stitching.

I took a couple pairs of PI Pro bib shorts into my lbs (that carries PI) and had them warranty both pairs (both had the same stitch coming unraveled in the same spot). One week later I had two brand new bib shorts. No questions asked.

Thanks guys -- I'll make the drive to the outlet and see what they say. If you take them to a dealer (LBS) does the dealer have to ship them back and deal with all that? I feel bad taking Amazon bought bibs into a bike shop where I didn't buy them...

highly doubt your LBS going except them if you bought them on amazon. Going to website and getting RMA takes two weeks usually.

To follow-up, I took the bibs over to the PI Outlet in Orlando. They exchanged them (refund for credit if you want to be technical) with no issue or questions. He agreed that a few thousand miles was too few. So I also bought another pair while I was there since they were so good about honoring the guarantee. Very pleased.
