Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic Ksyrium SE - Performance Exclusive

Hello All,

Does anyone have any real life experience with the Ksyrium SE? Mavic Ksyrium SE Road Wheelset - Performance Exclusive

I'd like to see if anyone has compared it to the Ksyrium Elite wheels. Performance has them for $499 minus 15% off. I know it's a little heavier than the Elite's by about 200 grams but not sure how much of a difference that would make.

Thanks in advance.

No experience with it but @ 1790g it is on the pretty heavy side. What are you replacing?
I think you can do much better than that for the same money.

They are a relatively weak wheel. I had a set on a Cannondale and they creaked when you mounted the bike. I have friends that have had them and got rid of them.

I don't think any wheel can compare with Campy wheels, or Fulcrum if you have any issue with Campy wheels on a bike with Shimano.

Not in terms of longevity and especially not in value. Any mechanic will tell you that.

Until you need a replacement spoke....only sold in $50USD kits, which gets insane when the kits only come with 1 NDS rear spoke.

I have a set of Vuelta Corsa Lite which you can get for around $200 and they probably havr 10k miles on them and still like new. Any custom built wheel will last forever and you can generally get a better value then factory wheels. Shimano factory wheels are also great values and bomb proof

Ksyrium se

I don't have the se, but I do have another older set of sle's and a new set of the pro Exaliths. There are other wheels out there, but for my money, I haven't seen anything that competes as a combination of weight, durability, and rolling resistance.

That having been said, my Exaliths are 1370 grams for both, and my older ones are about 1450gr. Both are significantly lighter than yours. And if you ride a lot you can feel the additional rolling resistance of a heavier rim, especially above 18-20 mph. I ride about 120-150 mis/week in season.

So before you buy, you'll want to find out where your additional weight is.
