Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What part of the knee do you dangle the countersink?

When you are measuring for saddle position? Is it the middle of the joint of the kneecap?
Any good links on fitting in general?

Assuming you mean the landmark you measure from when adjusting the saddle's fore / aft positioning, it's the bony bump at the top center of the shin, just below the knee cap. The technical name is the tibial tuberosity, in case you want to check an anatomy text for reference.

Peter White has an excellent write up on fitting:

Lots of other great stuff on his site, as well. Check it out.

Why would you dangle a countersink? You using it for a plumb bob?
