Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is quite accurate:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Better...w_of_headlines

Would apply to threads started on the 41 as well.

"Should I get a gravel bike?"

"Would I notice a difference upgrading my frame?"

And so on.

Just now I was down in the pool room pilfering some of their pistachios and one of them walked up to me with a cue and said "Assume the position like you were gonna take a shot" then positioned the cue in my hands and said "That fits her perfectly. I think she should start playing pool with us." I said "I would love to but I don't like to take a day off when I'm the only one in my department."

I had hoped to learn to play sooner since they sometimes go to tournaments at other senior centers and I wanted to walk in- a pink-haired chick among all the white-haired guys- and kick some butt. My hair isn't pink anymore and I doubt I'll get good enough to win but it's a thought.
Be prepared to lose money. Sounds like a hustle to me already.

Also, snooker ain't a beginner's game. Enormous tables with tiny pockets and tiny balls. I think a beginner could play all day on a real snooker table and not make a ball. Maybe I'm just bitter... last time I played snooker it was against tour pros, and they handed me my ass.

Question for all the pro bike fitters here.

I've got a red colored wedge under my right cleat, spd mountain bike style. Switching to a road shoe and SPD-SL cleat and trying to mimic the same fit as the mountain bike shoes...

Are there specific brands and or colors that indicate the width of the wedge? I have a feeling that home-brewing over to the road cleat might be a tad more involved than just look, adjust, and go.

I'll have to get a picture up here of the mtn bike cleats & wedge if that makes any difference.

I do remember I was told to raise the seat about 3mm when switching over.

Man, I can't be too hard on the 41 after spending some time in motorcycle forums again. When I was searching Ducati stuff, I mostly ran into people who were pretty vested and interested in how their bikes worked and enjoyed sorting stuff out. The people with money to throw at a dealer mechanic usually don't spend too much time online.

Enter the cheap Japanese sportbike forums. I think every 7th or 8th Avatar is of a partially clothed female that would immediately get deleted here. Then you have guys who have no grasp of basic things like fuel octane or how EFI works. Not a lot of "thinkers" there.

Quoted for truth.

The real games don't start til about 3 am, and if it's one pocket, it's generally for some big glue. Not a real spectator friendly game, hence the 9-ball and 8-ball stuff on TV, but it's the real deal.

He put the wedge under the cleat and not under the insole of the shoe? That's odd. Mine put it under the insole.

As always, ask your fitter. He's not going to charge you for the information. What you need to know is the wedge angle, and direction (pronate, etc).

Monday I did Sufferfest: Hell Hath No Fury while running Zwift. That video always kicks my butt. I almost gave up during the second sprint. In fact I ran out of steam before finishing it and almost quit, but I refilled my water bottle with some Scratch and powered on.

I see the sense and humor in this however there are many questions especially here that can't be answered "no" or perhaps shouldn't be.

"How should I wash my helmet liner?"
"Is this bike n+1 which will result in divorce?"
"How should I launder my bike shorts?"
"Why do my bike shorts fit funny?"

During my formative years aka the 70s, there was a big push for population control. There was even a TV commercial, which included a Pete Seeger song, about how the world's population would be doubling in 32 years. Highly educated people and those who wanted to consider themselves as such were very concerned about this and about the waste they, their children and future generations would be producing and the drain they'd place on the infrastructures. They made plans to have few children or none to enable zero population growth. But a great many people said "To hell with that" and had as many kids as they felt like. Not surprisingly, there are now a lot fewer proponents of zero population growth than the other folks.

I can amend the law to state that, for every thread title that ends in a question mark on the 41, the answer is either "No", or "You're too fat for this sport anyway, you should sell your bike".

That should fit all possible scenarios now.

My wife and I watched "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" recently with daughter #2, who shows interest in watching iconic films. She asked me to buy her a "Save Ferris" tee shirt so I got one off ScamBay for her.

She wore it to school today and apparently got several compliments.
