Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking at an otus vs the old sigma 50, it's not even in the same ballpark. Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens Image Quality

Apparently that 85 Art has much improved AF over even the other art lenses. And having AF at all wins over the otus, TBH.

Color wise, it seems there's some axial CA on the 85A (so some fringing out of focus), but I've only seen that show up in a couple of shots which were just demonstrations that it exists. I can't detect it in any of the real pictures I've seen. Otherwise it seems very color neutral, to me.

Looking at the charts, the free lens we just got (canon 100 macro) is actually really sharp, too, but unfortunately only 2.8.
AF vs MF really depends on what you do with it. AF would occasionally be nice for me, but it's not often that I really miss it.

In terms of color cast, I think that it's tough to get a feel unless you've been working the raws. I mean, they're all pretty close to neutral, but there are differences that pop up in daily use. When you routinely have to work to get certain tones juuuust right on Lens A and yet a simple color temp adjustment is all you need on Lens B, it makes a difference. For the most part, I like Zeiss best in that regard, Canon next and then Sigma. Again, personal preference.

Then she should get a TS-E 90. It's the only reason I sold my 100/2.8

If you look at the big picture, it makes sense to get the flu shot. Risks are very low, but of course everyone knows someone who knows someone who got Guillan-Barre (ascending paralysis, treatable) but the chances of that are very rare. If more and more people get immunized, we get herd immunity which is good for society as a whole.

So that's why I always get it and I advise my patients to get it. That said, it's still a free country so it's up to the individual.

Y'know, maybe my eyes just aren't that picky, but my 50A never seemed to have much trouble focusing.

That makes perfect sense to me, datlas. I have in fact thought about it (the shot) for myself, though I doubt I'll persuade Mrs. B anytime soon. I probably will get the thing next season; I'll be 66 and probably the potential benefit really does override any very small risk.

We had reps come here all the time last year, mostly from nursing companies that do home health and field management stuff (insurance). It's so odd that everyone who has a job in that field is a 24-28 year old bubbly and attractive young lady.

Edit: Forgot to add that it ended this year because we made a corporate decision to ban reps from our offices. I'll miss the free breakfasts most of all

So...I work across the street from a building that is home to an information center and other offices of the E.P.A. I just saw a DHS police officer direct his dog to sniff all the bike parked outside the entrance to the E.P.A.'s offices. Perhaps they were checking for polluting motors hidden in the frames?

Fate has tempted me in to forgoing the whole responsible adulting thing. I've been window-shopping bikes so of course one of my credit cards with a zero balance has decided to give me a 12-month 0% purchase promo, after which time it goes back to a not-terribly-fantastic APR. IOW, they're just asking me how much of a bike I want to commit to paying off in 12 months. Damn the temptation. If I were 20-something I'd just not think and bury myself in too much debt.

To be fair, I spotted only one current one on the 41; just took a quick glance though. 2 in General; 1 in each of 50+ and Bike Fit.

However, the Shoe Dehydration thread might be equivalent to two hurty-pointy saddle threads??

I'm convinced there's a new-bike lust emotion sensor built into those chip cards. My card just did the same thing to me.

EPA agents monitoring BF have obviously concluded bike riders are of ill repute and warrant security checks. Especially the 41, A&S, SS&FG, P&R, the 33, trollheim . . . where do I stop?
