how many things to worry about charging/plugging-in before you ride?
for me, the number is 6.
phone
bluetooth speaker
garmin
3 owleye usb charge lights for the caboose. one for the rear triangle and two for the seatpost.
i suppose i should be happy i ride older ultergra components so i don't hafta worry about
keeping electronic shifting going as well.
the lights are good for 7-8 hours on blink mode (which is how i use em) so they don't hafta be
charged after every ride. i still charge em anyway. gotten into the habit of charging the garmin
after every ride because there has been more than one time i thought it was at 80%+ charge
only to find it in the red at the onset of a ride. annoying.
how many things do you hafta charge up before setting out on a ride?

You ride around with a speaker blaring music? That's pretty annoying unless you're on an empty trail.

Garmin Edge 520
Bose Wireless Earphones
Front Light
Rear Light
Just replaced the battery in my powermeter. (Usually twice a year)
I'd hate to have to charge my shifters too. I've used them and they're nice, but I don't want an electric groupset. Every night my bike would be plugged to 7 wires against a wall...

Depends. I have an Edge, but I don't mind riding without it these days, unless I'm doing a workout with a power target. Otherwise I use a Garmin GPS watch, and that's way easier to stay on top of the battery.
Lights this time of year. I wouldn't need them on weekends, but lately I'd rather ski on weekends.
EDIT: Forgot my power meter. Vector takes coin cell batteries, and mine need replacing soon. I think I have a pair on the shelf. Go through them pretty quickly.

I don't count my phone since I keep it charged whether I am riding or not. So for me, the answer is 0, except when I am touring. When I am, I carry several rechargeable AAA batteries and charger to power my camping headlamp and rear blinky. I read a lot after dark so I need to have spare batteries.

Woman make me faster
Phone, iPod, heart rate monitor, Garmin, lights front and rear and on occasion the bike. So much for simplicity.

get rid of the speaker and you're down to 5. Enjoy the outdoors, leave the music for the trainer

I find that when the speaker is blaring people don't shoot out in front of me, don't randomly change lanes into me, don't open car doors randomly without looking.
In fact, they ARE looking, they're looking for ME. And that's the whole damn point. Well that plus the fact that I have my hammer beats.

The whole point is for people to hear me. My weekday rides involve riding on closed roads (not trails, but actual roads), with many tourists walking cluelessly. They feel secure since they are not expecting cars, but forget about bikes. Sometimes there will be film productions. I make sure to blast something rocking (Slayer always works) when passing film crews.
I think using earbuds is dangerous and since I ride solo, gotta have some tunes.
To answer the question:
phone (charged no matter what)
bluetooth speaker (does not need to be charged before every ride)
smart watch (used mainly to control the speaker, also same comment as above)
lights for night rides. I rarely ride at night, but I make sure the lights are fully charged before going

When commuting, I don't just have it blaring, but blaring full blast.

Non omnino gravis
Phone (gets charged every night regardless of cycling)
Boombot PRO (generally charged 2x a week)
Front blinky (lasts 2-3 weeks per charge, depending on usage)
Garmin 520 (generally charged 2x a week)
Mio Velo HRM (again, 2x a week)
Stages PM (2032 coin cells, they last less than a month, I always have 2 spares in the saddlebag)
Cygolite Hotshot Pro (charged every Friday)
Add to this the stuff that needs charged on the wife's bike, and the kid's bikes, so I just built a pull-out that nestles under one of my workbenches with a 10-port USB charger in it. Oh, and I also have one of those Anker 3300mah USB quick chargers and two shorty cables that are always with the bike as well.

I pedal about every other day.
So Garmin, charged about once a week;
Front and rear lights, charged about twice a week;
Scosche heart rate monitor charged after every ride;
Di2, charged about once a quarter;
And I generally don't ride with my phone.

I don't charge everything before each ride, but these are the battery operated things I use on a ride.
Phone
Bluetooth earbuds
etap/di2
garmin
heart rate monitor
power meter
Some bikes also have a speed sensor, cadence sensor, and lights if necessary.
I might also bring along a gopro and usb power stick if it's a ride I want to record.
