Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano shoes - consistent sizing?

I have a fitting on Tuesday, switching to road pedals, and just found out my fitter doesnt have any shoes in my size. Called around at all the other bike shops. Best they have are cheap nylon shoes that I wont bother with.

I currently ride with size 40 XC61 Shimano MTB shoes and they fit perfectly like a glove, I love them.

In desperation, I ordered some size 40 Shimano RC7 road shoes from Amazon with one day shipping. Should be here tomorrow or monday.

Do you suppose the Shimano sizing, fit, width are very consistent across their MTB and road shoes? Im hoping I dont have to return them...

No, not consistent, and they aren't alone. I've tried multiple pairs of Shimano/Northwave and Specialized, they all fit slightly different from model to model.

It's why I won't be buying cycling shoes online anymore, these companies are far too unreliable. In comparison, I know when I order a size 8 running shoes from Asics, it will fit. I can't tell you why Shimano 40 will fit the same in one model as a 42 in another model.

Interesting. I have 4 different pairs in size 44 and they all fit fine. One is a road shoe and the others are MTB shoes.

Didn't realize I was such a shoe *****. I have road shoes, XC shoes that I use mainly on road, commuter/MTB shoes with flexible soles, then winter shoes that I use both on and off road.

My experience has also been that they're consistent across multiple shoes.
