Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like fun. Good job on wrangling a second rental on the same vacation. That would burn some political capital in my family.

No cycling, but damn this place is huge. My Garmin VAHR is thrilled, let me tell ya.

4+ hours at the water park.

I took my oldest girl on this giant tube slide that dumps you into a big funnel. She'll never trust me again.

I believe @indyfabz is bikepacking in Montana. Anyone hear how he is doing?

We are currently at the Girona train station, hopping on a 35 minute train to Figueres to see the Dalí museum. The museum itself is supposed to be surreal and well worth the trip. We shall see.

Try Spicewood Springs Road. Steepest descent I have ever done in my limited experience. I would not want to do worse.

So today, I just was riding around on the TT bike, getting more time in the new position and I figured I might as well avail myself of the opportunity to get those intervals done. The task was three 5 min intervals at 114% with 5 min rest in between. Those were hard-ish but totally doable in the old position, in the new position they are really hard- gasping-for-breath-by-the-end hard more than shut-up-legs hard.

Anyway, I headed out to this canyon that is a gradual 3% uphill heading out and I popped off the first two intervals at 116% then 114%.

Turned around and did the third one heading out of the canyon, now a 3% downhill grade. Actually scared myself a little because I got going too fast- 31 mph for 5 min. Missed by a few watts, wound up at 112%. But 31 mph is fast for me, no draft (not that I'd like be able to hang in any group that was going 31 mph by virtue of the benefit of the draft) and no coasting (as in down a steep descent). That was fun.

A few days ago one of those FB Memories came up in my feed. Four years ago I posted about my longest ever ride- 31 miles. The next goal was 36 miles. That seems way way longer ago than 4 years ago.
