GIANT TCR Advanced 2 - Rim Upgrade Help
Hi All,
Thanks for reading. I have recently purchased a Giant TCR Advanced 2, Full 105 groupset. A nice upgrade from Sora...
Over time, I have upgraded my seat and tyres. I would like to look at upgrading my rims next. The rims I currently have I actually believe are worse then my previous bikes rims (both stock). On my TCR I have PR-2's, I believe. I've been back to the LBS two times with what I will describe as front wheel "judder". Braking at higher speeds results in the bike almost feeling like it is pulsing when it comes to a stop. I was told it was the headset and they corrected that along with the front wheel being slightly out of true. I have noticed a difference but the feeling is still there. I am narrowing this down to the rims them self.
Can anyone suggest a good rim-set upgrade? I ride about 150-200 miles per week. I have rim brakes.
Thanks!
CK

Those are fairly well regarded rims I believe for stock. Try toeing your front brakes in after making sure all else is properly adjusted.
And look for the seam on the brake track opposite the valve hole. Is it smooth or is one side raised above the other? That can be filed smooth if necessary. An uneven seam will cause the problem you are describing.
I think new rims to solve such a problem would be a mistake if you have to pay for them. The problem shouldn't be happening and should not be your expense. Make a warranty claim if you can't get satisfaction.
Without a better reason for what a rim upgrade means I wouldn't have my wheels rebuilt or replaced.

I just upgraded mine to Ultegra wheels, but I had no problems with the dock wheels. I actually moved those to my back up bike.

It's more annoying than seemingly troublesome. I got a second opinion and brought it to another LBS I usually go to, which I feel bad about in a way as I did not buy the bike from them. They looked over all the standard culprits, wheel true, headset torqued properly, hub, brake mechanism play - ALL checked out fine. He mentioned it could still need more miles to "brake it in", currently have about ~250 mi. originally thought it was 400 or so, but I was wrong after a second check on Strava
