Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just a few miles testing and making adjustments. Some 20 miles in total. Going on a longer ride this weekend.

Nice. Is it possible for you to write down your thoughts regarding the handlebar? I am really interested in that particular aero flat top bar.

Wahoo Bolt and sensors

Water cages and bottles
Heavy normal pedals (I have the Ultegra pedals that I will test this weekend)
Wheels with tires, inner tubes, and skewers are 5.5lbs alone! But I need those for now for my heavy a*s*s*

Maybe when I loose the 50lbs again, I can worry about weight reduction on the bike

Looks really good, got me thinking about the possibility of building something up.

Sucks, doesn't it? Just when you think you might have enough bikes and can start collecting money ....

Let me know how the mirrors work. I can't think the right-side mirror would do much but the other might be helpful in traffic, I'd guess.

Not sure I can write anything on the bar... I am new to this kind of riding... not sure what to look for and do not have any other point of reference . It is not that I do not want to share, just that I do not have the background to compare or highlight the good the bad and the ugly...

And just saying - "they feel good" is not what I think that you are looking for

Here is what I can share so far... I hate the fact that there is limited space to install all the stuff that needs to go on them. Light is cramped in there and then I have the Bolt... where the heck to I put the small bell? What about a phone holder (well, my friends would say that it goes in the jersey! duh! ) Or some would say, "you don't need any of that crap" or "you got the wrong bike"

It was a set so I figured that I would install both. Only rode for 4 miles to adjust them. They seem to work great.
And helps keep my anxiety, of not seeing what is behind me, in control.

Bell? If you are riding among pedestrians you are doing it wrong. Phone in jersey is a no-brainer ... let those multi-billion-dollar deals wait until the end of the ride.

I have trouble with the light on my aero bars as well---the mount is made for round bars, and the round section between the clamp and the flat is also where the cables exit. I might have to rig something based on an old T-bar. I used to tie a little piece of PVC pipe to my bar with a section of inner tube. I didn't want to do anything so jury-rigged on my nice CF bike ... so I will have to stretch my feeble engineering muscles.

Actually, I am looking for input that has no frills. Like you just did.
Do feel like it has a lot of give when you put your weight on it? Does it flex down when you are on the drops? How about on the flat part?

I'm already sold on the fact that too much is never enough and enough is too much. As far as bikes go I am pretty specific on what I want but that doesn't narrow down anything or set a perfect number to have in a stable. This did look like a fun build and looks like a nice solid bike good for many years of use.

Do it. It's fun. I don't have that much interest in riding a bike unless it's something I customized and built myself now.

What sucks is I can get one more bike ... and I know I really should buy or build a touring bike (my frame seems to have a terminal illness) but every time I see this bike .... and the disc-CF bike that JoeJack built ... I start thinking about bikes i don't need but want.

I am following that build as well. Pretty cool! Specially with the custom parts he has designed.

Thank you! The fun for me is always on the build... what ever that is...

All your comments as well as how good this frame looks... could not resist. My son is my same height (at least for now...he is still growing)... so I sent for another frame. This time painted red, to build a bike for him (well, I will give him this one when I am done with the new frame... and I will get the one coming )

In this paint scheme... again, no decals... just the dotted pattern and the red paint in those areas.

As sad as it sounds I have been unable to ride it for a long distance. I have been working at home redoing a bathroom... I am trying to finish the bathroom today so that I can have time tomorrow to ride.

Before

After

Cheers!

Was able to finally do my first ride... it was only 15 miles. Be gentle with me... I am a complete newbie...

Will do this every morning to get use to it... baby steps, baby steps...

At a stop light, could not clip back on fast enough and ended walking the bike across... also when I got home, a combination of making the turn into my drive way, the curb, pedal down on the side that I was leaning on... scraped the heck out of the pedal... another lesson learned...

Pedals are meant to be beat the hell out of. In my experience those Ultegra pedals will still be working great even when they are worn down to bare stubs.

Well, not really. But you get my point.

You aren't a real cyclist until you have done a clip-fall in front of someone. Doing it all alone doesn't count.

All that bike needs are some ridiculously deep aero rims---well, from an appearance level. What it really needs is riding---which you are already handling well. Good news.

Thank you for the encouraging comments. And I know that I will fall trying to disengage from the pedals... not if, but when, got it, lol

I need to adjust the right shoe base for the clip... left foot felt great, right did not feel right. Need to figure out if I slide it forward or backward a bit. Outside of that, all good. But man, am I out of shape! LOL!!!

Every part of a bike that can contact pavement, should be considered as "scruf blocks". Ride it. (unfortunately) crash it. ride it more.

Don't sweat the road rash. Wear it as a badge of both honor and shame. every crash is both kudos or being out there living it in person, plus a lesson well earned.

Not bad. If you can not clip in at a stop light yoinjustvstartbpedaling I clipped and clip later on. Pedal gently until you can clip in. I do it all the time. The best satisfaction is to be able to clip in on the first try. Click-Click. Best feeling ever!

Easier said than done!! LOL! Frigging foot was slipping all over, could not get the pedal to be in the right position, slight incline at the intersection... you get the point, I was overwhelmed...

It was much better today. Did the same route this morning.
