So when are we going to start seeing 2018 bikes with it? I want to get a new bike but I'm not going to buy 6800 with this around the corner, even if there's no performance difference.

I was thinking mechanical. Like a CAAD12 Ultegra 8000 or something along those lines.

Adding the new brakes to my list of things to buy so I can fit 28's on my Emonda. With the current 6800 brakes the GP4000S II's rub.

Lifetime Ultegra user in various iterations - meh on the aesthetics, but I'll get used to it as I did 6800, all about the function/reliability/affordability for me. I have 2 relatively new 6800 bikes, so no plans to upgrade anytime soon. I do like the new FD redesign though.

Kit doesn't match
I think it's damned near a tradition for us to bristle at the sight of a new Shimano crankset. Remember when 9000 came out? People were yelling . But we eventually get used to it.
Although I found the FD a little fiddly to set up at first, for me the 6800 group has been absolutely fabulous. If they have managed to improve on that even a little, I'd be thrilled.

The crank and rear der look... very much like new Honda and Toyota's. Very angular. Not my style, but I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Without multi shift both up and down, mechanical shimano simply doesn't cut it.
Sadly, this forces the buyer to electronic. They're the biggest bike component manufacturer in the world--their engineers are smart enough to figure out how to include this feature in mechanical.
I wish campy were more price competitive. So it looks like I'll be forced to go with Di2 ultegra 8000 series for price and function.

Installed the FD8000 on my 5800 bike. Works beautifully, IMO worth the upgrade. Everything works better, the adjustment is easier, Shimano put a lot of thought into this. No more inline adjusters! Works great with the 5800 shifters in case anyone else is unhappy with the long arm FD.

is this only shimano road groupset besides dura ace to feature dual pivot brake calipers? I heard dual pivot is a better design but I wonder if I can get them for cheap if Shimano ever made one in the past that I was not aware of.

All Shimano road groupsets use dual pivot brakes and have done for some time - even Claris, right at the bottom.
