Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin and Wahoo Mount Compatibility Problem

I'm looking to upgrade my aging Garmin 510 and have read a lot of favorable reviews of the Wahoo Bolt. Most of the reviews say that you can mount the Bolt in a Garmin bar mount but it's not recommended for long term use.

I have an out front Garmin mount for my Giant SLR bars that I'd like to continue to use. It is the only out front mount made for those bars and there isn't a Wahoo version available.

Does anyone have a workaround for mounting a Wahoo in a mount designed for a Garmin?

That should work. Thanks. Have you used this adapter?

Not that one, but I've used others made by him and they work fine.

That said, that Bolt standard mount that comes with it and makes it aero is pretty nice too.

I don't know why Wahoo just didn't make theirs compatible with Garmin's. I think others have done that and it would have given them a lot of instant mounts right out of the gate. Instead, you can use a Wahoo in a Garmin mount, but it will be 90 degrees rotated unless the mount has the capability to rotate the mount ring.

IIRC, the notches don't quite match up either. Getting the Wahoo into the Garmin mount calls for a little finesse, or slight modification of one.

Mine fit in both my mounts, seems to be fine. But the fact that it's landscape vs portrait is a show stopper.

K-edge mounts work the best. You can buy a new puck (~$5) for the mount that changes it. That, or you can take the existing Garmin one and rotate it 90 degrees (I'm told, haven't done it).

That said, I'd use the adaptor or I'd just get the new mount. Actually, the Wahoo Bolt mount is pretty nice all by itself.

Thanks for your input guys. I'd like to be able to use the existing out front mount as i prefer the head unit in that spot and it was rather expensive. (Only one source for a mount that fits these bars.) The adapter seems like it should work just fine.

Regards,

Rob
