Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does This Look Like Tough Climbing?

Thinking of riding this metric ride in a couple of weeks. I am not used to riding much hills but would appreciate a good challenge. I will attach the plotted elevation.

Thanks

3500 takes some work, but you can handle it...

Looks like a good route for a good workout to me. The climbs should not be too steep as the "highest ones" are spread out over a couple miles. So, while you will not be going very fast you should not have too much trouble if you take your time. Just realize you're not going to be that fast going up the 1-2 mile climbs. The nice part is the rollers and coming back down after the climbs!!

Where is this?

this looks like a pretty fun ride to me, but i like climbing. nothing there looks terribly difficult. what strikes me about the route is the fact that there aren't any flats where you can just cruise for a few miles. you're either climbing or screaming downhill. go easy the first half, don't burn yourself out, and i think you're gonna come out of it with some tough hillclimbin' legs. i'm jealous

hehe. No, its doesn't look like tough climbing. Here's the profile for day 2 of Ride the Rockies...

Check out the elevation on that puppy. Also note the max elevation. O2 is getting pretty thin up there.

You should be fine, 3500' over 65 miles isn't too tough. Don't go too hard on those 3 bigger hills in the middle, or the rollers the rest of the way will really hurt.

Doesn't look bad. No single climb is much more than 300 feet. It's hard to tell gradient from that plot but I'm sure it's doable. I do 2500 feet of climbing on my regular 25 mile ride and it's really not a whole lot more than "rolling".

Which pass is that?

And the original poster, no that's not too shabby. Not saying that it's easy for everyone, but the climbs are short and pretty gradual. And elevation's not an issue, which goes farther than you might think.

Edit: n/m, saw the name of the pass on the map.

It's all relative. If you have to ask, then it will probably be challenging for you.

Go for it - you can do it!
