San Francisco Rentals
Coming to SF in a few weeks. I'm looking for a place that rents road bikes. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think a lot of the bike shops now rent bikes because it's hard to stay in business just selling bikes, especially when you can get many of the bikes cheaper online. There are quite a few bike shops around Golden Gate Park, and quite a few of them offer rentals.

There are places along Fisherman's Wharf that rent bikes - mostly the lower-end comfort cruisers. Blazing Saddles is one name I see all too often - they'll end up on the bridge, driven by people who generally don't ride bikes and are intent on looking at the view, oblivious to the fact that they must share the path with others...but I digress.
Another one I know of is my LBS:
Pacific Bikes & Boards
Address: 345 4th St, San Francisco, CA 94107
Phone: (415) 928-8466
Great guys there, and I highly recommend them.

Rented from Blazing Saddles at Fisherman's Wharf last year. Happy with their service. Middle-range cross bike, but it worked well for getting to Tiburon and back. Lock, rat trap and at small handle bar pack came with the bike. For the rest I brought my own gear: shorts, jersey, gloves, helmet, etc.
Several of the bike rental shops have coupon discounts, usually 5 dollars off. Shop around.
txzen's riight about most of the renters. Most don't seem to be regular riders and barely make it to the Golden Gate Bridge. Past the bridge the riding is more fun.
There is a really good bike map of SF that has the street grades in shades of red and the usual best routes marked. There is a pdf on line as well as a hard copy you can buy.
