anyone ever seen copper plated bottle cages?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

a pair of copper plated bottle cages would be the perfect touch on the bike i'm putting together right now. Anyone ever seen any?

I'd hazard a guess that copper would be too soft to stand up to the wear of inserting the bottle. But regardless, what would you plate it onto? I don't think it'll stick to aluminum so then... you have steel cages? Heavy.

Someone may know but I don't think you can plate stainless so you'd have to go with a "normal" steel cage. I've got the Ciussi cages and the little accents look sharp

Copper cages? You can't be serious.

(Disclosure: I own a couple Record carbon cages.)

You could get a couple of plain (un-colored) aluminum cages and have them anodized a copper color.

I've seen here in Japan a few shops still stocking the vintage looking "100 years of Le Tour" bottle cages. Very expensive though. Maybe you can do a search on the net for some.
Also I'm sure I saw "new style" brassy / coppery ones two days ago in a shop here. I'll be back there in a couple of days and will try to verify that with the brand name etc...
Steve.

hmm thats pretty close. i'm waiting to post pics but the bike i'm doing is a mid 80's pinarello with chrome lugs and a gorgeous orange pearl repaint. it's got a san marco regal saddle with copper rivets and rails and damn, matching cages would be super cool. i know it's sick and it may be too much, but...
thanks for the responses though, i may have to go a different route.

Real copper would probably turn green to blue and patchy over time. Just buy some copper metallic spray paint and go for it. I am riding on a copper colored seatpost and stem...

I've got exactly what you need. When I bought my first bike last year the lbs threw in some cheap anodized black bottle cages. After a summer of riding in the sun and sitting on my car rack in the sun at work the cages actually turned a beautiful copper color. I have had many people ask me where to get them, but nobody really had any use for them. They are still sitting on my old bike. I think they are probable what your looking for. If your interested I'll e-mail you some pics. If you want them, I'll trade you for your old ones or just what it would cost to replace them (couple bucks). I'd just give them to you, but my lbs charges like 5 bucks a piece for those cheap black ones. Anyway, send me an email if your interested.
